Oh and Beverly Hills Cop the original is a classic. It's up there with Murphy's best work i.e. 48 Hrs, Trading Places, Coming to America, Bowfinger.

The sequels are pish though. All of them.

I suppose that all depends on what you think the word classic means.

48 hours was decent mainly due to Nick Nolte, Trading places is good also but Dan Aykroyd's performance plus an amazing supporting cast helped that.

Put Murphy in with good actors and a good plot then you'll get good things happening. Beverly Hills Cop 4 doesn't do that.

I don't like rewatching films that I enjoyed as a kid, it often ruins the memory. I was looking forward to BHC 4 so rewatched one and it did ruin it. It's an okay fun film but nothing special and the reviews that are in about the new one seem to suggest the same.

It doesn't age well like what real classics of that era have circa BTTF.

The new one doesn't even get the chance to age well tbh.

Aldo's definitive list of real classic 80s comedies!

Ghostbusters
Goonies
Ferris Bueller's day off
Airplane
Good morning Vietnam
Bill and Ted's excellent adventure
Beatlejuice
Raising Arizona
Planes, Trains and Automobiles

That's it, that's the list.

That's a good example of a film that I really enjoyed when I was younger that I'm not going near now.
Real classic films can be watched over and over again. Films like Jaws and those on that list never age.

Well apart from Raising Arizona which I put in because I love it. Not everyone's cup of tea probably.

I agree that's happened to me with a couple of 80's films. But I've watched Trading Places and Coming to America loads of times and not ruined at all for me.
