Just watched the first one of that American nightmare

Seemed like an interesting story but we both couldn't put up with the whole American soap opera build up and suspenseful music to literally every bit of information, that was delivered in some poundland tarantino /guy Richie fashion.

****ed the rest off.

In other news Netflix has revamped He-man masters of the universe.

Might watch that this week

I got nowt to watch at all for rest of the year only film I was looking forward to was napoleon and that’s been panned as more love story

Sexy Beast.

Yes yes yes!

Terrific new origin series about how Don and Gal step up in Landan during the early 90s. James McArdle and Emun Elliot put on a good show as the cockney reprobates and they are joined by a pretty great supporting cast. Elliot's portrayal of Don is especially good. Maybe doesn't have quite the threat of Kingsley's Don but he does catch that psychotic bent well.

7/10

True Detective Night country

As I have often said, True Detective series 1 is this best TV ever made. This is not that. That's not saying it's terrible. It's actually quite good and Foster and Reis as the leads are very good.

It's just a bit of a mess tbh. Admittedly I've only seen the first 3 episodes and in previous seasons the final couple of episodes have been used to tie things altogether. But this is, up to this point, more supernatural than supercop. The Cinematography is excellent though and the director makes full use of the landscape to set the mood.

I'll stick with it as I always have but I have a feeling I will be bitterly disappointed which is what I've been since Russ and Marty wheeled off into the sunset.

Master of the air

Another new series with much to live up to. It doesn't. Although there are some wonderful CGi scenes of air battles but I think the casting in this hasn't been great. Elvis is not the guy you want daring the do if you know what I mean. It's certainly no where near as good as the creators previous forays into WWII.

Another I'll probably stick with if only to try and work out what part of America Barry Koeghan's accent is from.

Has a massive score on IMDb so mibbe it's me that just expects too much.

I want Fences done and soon, criminally ignored on this thread Denzel should have got the Oscar.
Wtf do you mean "criminally ignored on this thread"?

I raved about it when it first came out. I'm sure I said it was the best film of the year that year and a masterpiece. Two actors at the height of their talents.

If people decide to ignore my often essential information then that's down to them.

I only supply the information. It's up to you lot to act on it accordingly.
-----‐----------------------------------------------------------------------

Tonight is Oscars night and so i thought I'd indulge myself in telling the Academy who they should pick for the honours if they were as sensible as me.

So....

Best director.

Damien Chazzelle.will win this for La La Land because Hollywood loves a film that celebrates...Hollywood. Me, i really don't get these modern musicals. ****s bursting into song at the drap of a hat doesn't float ma boat.

So i would probably go for Denis Villenueve of those who are nominated. Arrival is pretty spectacular it has to be said.

Best supporting actress.

For me Viola Davis should win this out the park. Her performance in Fences is fantastic.

Best supporting actor.

Hard one to call this. Some fine performances from the nominees.

Dev Patel in lion and Lucas Hedges in Manchester by the sea are both great but it has to be Micheal Shannon's performance in Nocturnal animals. Total standout in film with a particular excellent cast.

Best animated feature.

Haven't seen all the films that have been nominated but Kubo and the two strings is a masterpiece and if that doesn't won then i will certainly be watching the film that does.

Best actress.

Emma.Stone will win this. Natalie Portman"s display in Jackie is well worth a gong though

Best actor

Another doozy.

Of those nominated i would give it to Denzel for Fences just because it's Denzel.

Casey Afleck in Manchester by the sea is excellent though and i wouldn't be at all upset if he won it.

Best picture.

If it was me then i would give this gong to Fences.

Manchester by the sea at a pinch.

Certainly not La La land. So that will probably win it.

Nae accounting for taste eh
