Vasily Zaytsev... quite apt for the film thread. Top film as well.
Brilliant film
Opening scenes showed how Russia eventually ground down the German resistance
Only a small percentage had rifles so the ones without collected them from their dead comrades

It's one of the best war films made. Even Hoskins as Krushchev is brilliant.

not forgetting that rachel weisz gets shagged in the film and i was in my teens in a pre broadband period of my life

Platoon, then Full Metal Jacket...

Full metal jacket has everything, the twisted story line of two halves...

But to me, Platoon stands head and shoulders above every other movie.....

The soundtrack, The storyline...The cast...And the home truths it kicks in.....

Platoon is a cracking film. I'd probably put that top of the list.

then Saving Private Ryan, Three Kings and Enemy at the Gates in any order.

One that's an old favourite simply because it's so oddball is Kelly's Heroes.

Platoon is head and shoulders above any war movie as it doesn't just concentrate on the fighting the enemy, but the feuds within, the drugs etc..

Private Ryan tops it for 20 minutes for pure action....

Three kings is kinda meh......

Try "The Long,The Short and The Tall". Brits use to make good war films like.....Angels-One-Five,The Man Who Never Was....the list is endless.

FMJ for me ... funnily enough watched Mystic Pizza the other night (unexpectedly enjoyed it) and Vincent D'Onofrio - Leonard (Private Jelly Doughnut) in FMJ plays a bit of a heart throb ... he must have gone on a massive calorie intarake to play the FMJ role - incredible transformation...

Talking about America's best sniper mind ... <whistle>
