I try to avoid them like the plague. Unfortunately the missus likes them so I have been occasionally to the cinema and have fallen asleep at both and Harry Potter. That would no be so bad but I snore!!
Time to annoy BCC with some superlatives from a recently seen film! Today I went for a skirmish to the IMAX in Leeds to see a little film called Dunkirk. Well, all I have to say about it is that it is easily the greatest filmgoing experience I have ever had. The film is an incredible audiovisual experience that MUST be seen in a cinema, and if you possibly can, at an IMAX. Its easily the best war film since Schindler's List. It's Hans Zimmer's best score and whilst I think Inception is better, this is definitely a close second (maybe third, need to watch Batman Begins again) in Nolan's filmography. Also it had what might be one of my fave easter eggs in film, a reference to another classic British WW2 film. Won't say what it was, hope someone else notices it...
You've just convinced me to go to the cinema to watch it Quill, Wednesday or Thursday this week on my days off, I'll report back. I did actually think that it was a movie that would benefit hugely from the whole cinema experience. Which is the best cinema in Hull?
It really is a film that needs to be experienced on a cinema screen as loud as possible. Actually, there's a pre warning for you - it's easily the loudest movie I've ever seen. It's almost deafening at times. When I go to cinema in Hull, I usually go to Vue in Princes Quay. It's all 4K screens and Dolby Surround Sound. Also it's only £5, decent price compated to what it was not long ago. The only cinema I would absolutely avoid is Reel in St. Stephens, it's really ****e.
Annoyingly the nearest IMAX to Hull is at Castleford, which is a shame because this really is a film that is perfectly made for IMAX.
Well not really 'hook, line and sinker' is it, considering you said you were trying to annoy me. Hardly surreptitiously drawing me in. You said this. I never said you said it was the best film ever, you plank.
I never said anything was the 'BEST THING EVER' either, but hey, you said that, so it's fine. Dunkirk is the best filmgoing experience I have had up to this point. It was a film absolutely made to be seen in a cinema, particularly in an IMAX one. I saw it in IMAX, and I've never seen something that fits the format so well. So there, apologies if that bothers you, it certainly seems like it. I've always found your criticism of me liking something newer funny. It's almost as if people can have opinions changed by something new that never existed before, or experience things they haven't in their past. I can only assume that the first thing you ever called 'the best' is still the just that in your eyes, right? All of your opinions the same as they were when you were a child, eh? Good day.
Doesn't bother me in the slightest. Never has and never will. It just seems to me that you have a rabid desire to be the first to shout from the rooftops at having seen something and as part of this it involves wildly over exaggerating the worth of said thing. My opinions do often stay the same seeing as you ask, like when I said both The Force Awakens and Rogue One were massively overrated and were barely average. It's others that change their mind 9 months later when the novelty of said new BEST THING EVER has worn off. Good day to you too.
I don't know what the daft sod is moaning about (again) but you have encouraged me to go to my local IMAX later in the week.
Agree about TFA, I sort of reluctantly liked it just cos it was Star Wars but later realised I was reluctant for a reason. Not sure anyone has changed their mind on Rogue One though have they? I thought it was ace and still do.
Took your advice, booked a couple of VIP seats for the early evening spot for less than fifteen quid for me and Mrs. LBIA, bargain, looking forward to it.
Dunkirk was impressive, well worth a trip to the cinema. Having not checked anything out about the film before going I was a bit shocked to see Harry Styles branching out into acting, unfortunately I never spotted Michael Caine.
