    The Orphanage...

Some good films mentioned but I thought you lot were a bit more cultured. Hands up if you won't watch films with subtitles?

My missus won't watch anything with subtitles, even if films are in English but have little bits of foreign language that are subtitled, she still gets the hump.

I sympathise with her to be honest.

If I wanted to read, I'd get a book.

    Speak English, it's acting ffs.

That's a shame, there's some incredible films out there. It might only take one good one to convince her? I recommend starting with something like 'Untouchable', which is very easy to get into and a proper feelgood movie.

There's some great foreign language films, you're missing out.

One that always confused me though, how the hell did Clint Eastwood manage to direct Letters From Iwo Jima (which was entirely in Japanese), when he doesn't actually speak Japanese himself?

If you're watching good acting, then you should be able to turn the sound off and still know what's going on.

You have to watch films in their original language IMO, Asian ones in particular.

Of course English dubs are always easier to watch and more accessible, but it isn't the same. Particularly, again, in Asian films, particularly anime.

On the subject of foreign language films, the ending of Downfall is pretty good.

On a similar note, the end of Schindler's List is brilliant too, a fitting tribute.

One thing about Das Boot too is that the English dubbed version is as good as the actual German version as they got the German actors from the film to word their lines in English

Best foreign language film I've seen is Pan's Labyrinth.
