Watched it twice on a flight from Gatwick to Dubai, it was good although I am told by some Leeds fans that it is a load of bollocks.
Because Leeds fans are the most honest, unbiased and trusted people in the land Good film though, easily the best football based film (that I can currently think of)
Another good film is Munich, by the BBC. Has David Tennant doing a Welsh accent. He can do an English accent perfectly but can't really do a Welsh accent which is quite amusing.
That doesn't surprise me, read this a while ago... http://www.amazon.co.uk/Clough-Revie-Changed-English-Football/dp/1845966600 It gives a completely different view of the Clough/Revie rivalry than the film did...
That's basically what they say, the movie is nowhere near a true account of what 'really' happened. I was alive when it happened but too young to appreciate what was going on so don't really remember it much. Still, taking the movie on face value it is well worth watching for any football fan
I's just been announced that Richard Briers has died A fabulous actor and star of two of my favourite comedy series, "The Good Life" and "Ever Decreasing Circles" http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...s-peacefully-79-long-battle-lung-disease.html
RIP Richard Briers a very talented and much loved character actor Only the 2 girls left now from the Good Life!
That's a great shame - another classic comedy actor gone. The Good Life was one of those "must watch" sit-coms along with Reggie Perrin and Yes Minsiter/Prime Minister.
That is another one of my favourites OCF, an absolute classic. The re-make with Martin Clunes didn't quite work but I watched it all the same as I've always fancied Faye Ripley
Paul Eddington as Jim Hacker and Gerry Leadbetter Leonard Rossiter as Reggie Perrin And now Richard Briers as Tom Goode and Martin Bryce (Ever Decreasing Circles) I just hope that the Beeb will show a tribute with a few old episodes
That is indeed very sad, scarily, all the best comedy actors from my youth are nearly all gone! I hope we meet on the other side, it should be an absolute hoot! RIP
talk of dammed utd, good film, the book is well worth a read for those of you who enjoyed the film. a lot more detail in it
Just reading the book behing The Killing and it doesn't work for me at all. Having said that I also prefer Borgen and The Bridge anyway. Filmwise, and sorry to keep on the sub-totled genre, Hidden is good and Up in the Air is a good watch. Re: thread above, BBC sit-coms were at their best at that time and have stood the test of time, nowadays the general output is crap and Outnumbered is the nest of a pretty poor fair with each series getting worse. Not going out is pretty good.
I recently watched a great film called, nude nuns with big guns. Best ever for me is mood dependent. But top 5 Big lebowski Predetor Blazzing saddles Gladiator Blues brothers Best trilogy Probably the sergio leone/clint eastwood G B & U, Fist F of D, 4 a F D more. Best TV, HIGNFY, the Borgia and Sparticus. Honorable mention 4 anything with jimmy Carr, Friday night lights Lost started great, liked V, and cheers, fresh prince. But for me the greatest were only fools and blackadder! I like the lord of the rings so I'm a bit geeky but for me and I grew up reading 2000ad the geekiest and one of the dullest films I've ever seen was the watchmen. Bah!
It would be so difficult for me to list my top 10 favourite films as a lot depends on my mood. However 2 films that would never be out of my top 10 are Schindler's List and The Long Good Friday
Glad it's not just me! I had supposed the series was based on the book, not the other way around, and written by someone who'd never even visited the country at that. I won't make that mistake again. Regarding the old sitcoms, Reggie Perrin is my absolute favourite, and in this case the original books by Michael Nobbs ARE definately worth reading. Great! Super!
I didn't get where I am today without knowing that the author's name is DAVID Nobbs you hippopotamus!
Humphhh!! Was mixing my authors! Michael DOBBS wrote the equally brilliant House of Cards, which was also excellent on TV. "I don't know what you do at the weekends, Reggie, but take your wife into the country. Just the two of you. You'll return a different man. That's what Mrs. C.J. and I do, and we return different men!"
In the original TV series I thought the casting was superb, the only one that didn't quite get there for me was Uncle Jimmy, "Bit of a cock-up on the catering front!" All the others were just as I'd pictured them in the book!
