Don't see why Iniesta is in it this year, Pogba deserves to be.

Personally, I'm surprised at the dearth of talent playing outside of Europe.

You don't watch Real Madrid then, every big game he was sensational he actually almost passed out and had the physio on in the classico because of the amount of effort he was putting in.

Cristiano Ronaldo's votes (as Portugal captain):

    1 Ramos
    2 Bale
    3 Benzema

Hmm, I see a pattern there...

He left in August, and in my opinion has been a shadow of the player he was at Real Madrid.

What's that got to do with it? If I got a call-up to play for Real Madrid vs Barcelona I would pass out cos of the amount of effort I put in. I would be absolutely ****e though.

All I've heard from pundits is judge on how they perform in the big games, he performed every time with 100% effort to go along with his obvious quality and I believe if he hadn't got injured Argentina would have won the world cup.

True but he has been injured and has to adapt etc If David Luiz can make the team I'm sure they can overlook that he hasn't played much recently, when he has played he has mostly delivered 13 games 3 goals 6 assists.

David Luiz rightly on the end of some serious piss taking, god knows how he's made it in there! But Iniesta and Silva must be bloody glad it's taking the heat off them being in the team!

Fair play to Hodgson too, after all football is not just about scoring goals and defensive players / keepers deserve recognition too

I would point out that there were worse choices made.

Obviously Ronaldo wins it and Messi comes second, but the gap to 3rd has been closed significantly.

Mascherano made the World Cup final, the Champions League semi-final and has been a huge part of what is currently the meanest defence in Europe (that's a total guess, I don't know the actual figures but Barca have been excellent in defence this season).

So yes, Mascherano is never 'Player of the Year', but he's probably up there in the top 10 or so and is certainly better than Luiz. However, Godin deserved to be up there. He's been sensational.
