FIA to introduce penalty points system?

I haven't seen this posted anywhere else, so sorry if it's already been brought up

Basically, Charlie Whiting and the FIA has this idea that instead of reprimands, penalty points will be 'awarded' instead to a drivers Super License, similar to that of driving licenses for the road.

Offences will be on track and off track, but each type of offence will be worth different amounts of points. For example, being late to press conference maybe 1 point, but running into the back of someone could be worth 3 points.

Whiting has said it will be taken up with the teams first on the Wednesday before the Brazillian GP, but he isn't very optimistic.


What are everyone's opinions on this?

Don't think the drivers will like it, they know they're only likely to get a reprimand for offences, so if you're an error prone driver (Maldo, Grosjean, Perez) you'll rack points up pretty quickly, whereas with the current system you'll only be reprimanded (unless you take out a few title contenders in a 1st corner crash)
 
They should just grow a pair and take responsibility for policing the sport themselves, rather than coming up with harebrained schemes to completely remove the subjectivity from the decision making process.
 
This is just an invitation to abuse and constant calls for discipline. They nit-pick too much already with the drivers, IMO.
