Hope you don't mind me putting this on your thread, it kind of ties in and, at least, shows how lucky we are.

Reading owner Dai Yongge must either "fund the club adequately" or "make immediate arrangements to sell", the English Football League has said. The Chinese businessman has been fined a further £50,000 for failing to meet financial deadlines over wages.

Royals fans forced the abandonment of Saturday's League One match with Port Vale in protest at Dai's ownership.

The EFL said it will discuss the pitch invasion at a board meeting later this week.

"It has in recent months become increasingly clear that Mr Dai Yongge is no longer in a position - or does not have the motivation - to support the club financially as he did following the change of control in 2017," the EFL said.

"The league will now consider all available options it has under the regulations and will have no hesitation in bringing further charges.

"In the meantime, and for the sake of the future of Reading FC, its staff, supporters, and local community we urge Mr Dai either to fund the club adequately or to make immediate arrangements to sell his majority shareholding to appropriate new owners so everyone can move forward with renewed optimism."
Was listening to one of their fans on talk sport after the game and Agbonlahor asked him what they hoped to achieve and his reply was, "well we are talking about it aren't we?". Well yeah because you rang in you nutter. You could have still done that without stopping the game and risking a fine and points deduction

Here's a fairly easy to understand explanation of the new ffp rules that are being eased in

For solvency, the new no overdue payables (towards football clubs, employees, social/tax authorities, and UEFA) rule will ensure better protection of creditors. Controls will be performed every quarter and there will be less tolerance towards late payers.

The new football earnings requirements are an evolution of the existing break-even requirements and will bring greater ability to club finances. To ease the implementation for clubs, the calculation of football earnings is similar to the calculation of the break-even result. While the acceptable deviation has increased from €30m over three years to €60m over three years, requirements to ensure the fair value of transactions, to improve the clubs’ balance sheet, and to reduce debts have been significantly strengthened.

The biggest innovation in the new regulations will be the introduction of a squad cost rule to bring better cost control in relation to player wages and transfer costs. The regulation limits spending on wages, transfers, and agent fees to 70 per cent of club revenue. Assessments will be performed on a timely basis and breaches will result in pre-defined financial penalties and sporting measures

So how to Brighton and Brentford fit in?
There always hope
ITHICS
They both owe their owners serious money and gambled to get promoted.

Add in Brighton have the data model every club in the world wants and Brentfords owners used to be mates with Brightons owner, so knows a bit about their model.

Possibly, then again they might go on a run to mid table.
Yes both have had financial support from their owners but not at the same level as state sponsored teams.

Even Burnley have spent over £100m this season and look at them. Recruitment really needs to be bang on and investing heavily in our scouting network to have a big as net as possible would be a smart thing to do.

Point taken, but over what period of time? Part of those funds also related to the stadium and not the team.
It's not like throwing £200M a season at new signings.
He may as well have done. Even their own fans said they where / are horrendously ran and completely dependant on Bloom.

Its got a lot better since Chelsea paid over the top.for their players and coaches but before then it was a gamble from a professional poker player

They just used to loan about 10 players a season in the championship I’m sure

He definitely gambled, that's his nature, however my point is that whilst a lot of money is owed to the owner it was spent over a longer period of time. I mean Man Utd are almost £1Billion in debt. Everything is relative.
My initial point was that clubs can have some success in the Premier league without being state owned but I'd agree its definitely not easy.

I'm not so sure mate, relative success in rhe premier league still involves large amounts of debt and gambling on the future.

Not sure I want that tbh

Brightons current 'model' I think only really came into place when Dan Ashworth was appointed Technical Director in 2018, David Weir is now the Technical Director and they are arguably even better at what they do under him.

I don't want a mountain of debt either but it's a personal choice for the owner.
Life is always easier if you have the proverbial silver spoon or a mountain of cash.
If you gamble and win Life's great.
If you gamble and lose, not so much.
For us to get to Brighton's position in the Premier league is going to take money and luck. It is definitely not going to be easy but there is a chance, that's what keeps supporters interested.
As I said earlier ITHICS. :emoticon-0140-rofl:
