Yeah that's one of the most severe potential punishment. I think it will be used on those who take the piss and record an annual loss of £100m+ or repeat offenders. I doubt if you go a few million over the limit just once you will be banned from European competition.

I'm just thinking it could lead to more corruption via payments on the sly. For instance a club buys a player from another club, "This is what we're going to put on the official papers for the transfer fee, but I'll slip you a few more thousands/millions later". Didn't Wenger question the validity of City's £400m sponsorship deal?

I'm also curious to see just how much time, effort and money UEFA is willing to put in in order to check the accounts and their validity of every single club which qualifies for European competition. Will they focus on mainly the big clubs and give the smaller ones more leeway to fiddle with their finances? Or will they want to make an example of a small club in order to warn the bigger ones? If a club does break their rules, their punishments will set a precedent for future clubs that also break them. This could make a mockery of UEFA and their rules if it's clubs who attract a greater audience to their competition which find themselves as the contravening party. Then again they were gutless enough to allow AC Milan into the 2006/07 Champions league so I wouldn't be surprised to see them backtracking.

UEFA, like FIFA and the FA, are an organisation which is in great need of reform, hence why clubs choose to disrespect their rules, viewing them as the joke authority which they are.

Wenger isn't the only one. UEFA are investigating it. If they think its a blatant case of overpaying they will decide how much of that 400 mil city can claim in its books.

Same would go for players I assume. If FC Dubai bought Hazard for 30 million then sold hom to City for 30p a day later then im sure UEFA would step in as they get to decide what "Fair market value" is.

There probably will be a bit of wrangling and dodging going on in some places but UEFA can easily keep on top of any large scale attempts to bypass it and I would imagine, unless someone draws their attention, they will be focusing most of those efforts on the teams most likely to try and worm their way round FFP.

They will never ban Real Madrid and they are the worse than Man City for spending money they dont make.

If they did Ban one of the big clubs it would harm the TV money and at the end of the day thats what makes UEFA tick, thats all they are interested in. This whole ruling is based around protecting the big teams that bring in all the revenue and keeps the smaller teams away from the later stages of these tournaments.

I think its quite pathetic to win so much and as soon as you lose to fkn wail like that about money mand the ffp, like United have not outspent most clubs in the prem right now even though not top spenders

Firstly the TV right have already been sold until 2015 so even if Real were banned it wouldn't hurt the TV income for a few years.

Secondly I bet even if Real are banned for 10 years the TV companies will still be lining up to buy the rights, sponsors will still be easy to find and the chances of a break away league happening is zilch.

Will United/Arsenal etc care if City are banned from the CL? will Barcelona or Bayern care if Real Madrid is banned? No.

Being banned from the CL is going to hurt any club a lot more than it hurts UEFA.

Forget Real Madrid, United has by far the biggest global fanbase, do you think UEFA would bend over for United? Not a chance!

United has a higher average league home attendance than Real last year despite the Bernabeu having about 10k more seats.

United sell far more shirts than Real each year.

And is pretty much universally acknowledged as having the biggest fan base in the world by anyone who has ever done a survey. (http://bleacherreport.com/articles/...est-supported-clubs-in-world-football/page/16 , http://www.china.org.cn/top10/2011-10/19/content_23663971_13.htm)

So ummm yeah..... biggest, global, fanbase, easily.

I agree the TV rights are probably done and dusted but how about the companies that advertise inbetween the games?? they pay the TV companies back for there massive initial investment. If they tried to ban madrid or another big club the whole thing would blow up in their faces.

Its not about making a breakaway league its all about money and how much they would lose if the big guns are excluded from the top comps. This financial fair play thing is all about protecting the big boys from the likes of Man City and to stop other rich clubs muscling in on the champions league party. Its just a big dirty mens club that they are trying to shut off to any other teams.

I think you are kidding yourself with your last comment, clubs like Man Utd control football to a certain extend. Ok they might not sit on the board at UEFA or FIFA but the money they pull in is worth far more to them and yes they do bend over for united the same way they do for all of europes elite! Who do you think wanted tighter controls on Man City in the first place?? lol

Football as a sport is dead and its all about making stacks of money which they can only do with the big global brands in the finals of each comp.

Why do you think footballers get booked for taking there shirts off when they celebrate?? Its because the people that pay to advertise on the shirt want that glory shot of the player running down celebrating with there name splashed over the front of his chest. Why do you think they banned the fans from coming onto the pitch at the end of games?? so the cameras can see the advertising boards!

Football is all about how much money they can make, dont let them convince you its about fair play and protecting the game cause its bullshit.

    Disagree.

Can't see Sony, MasterCard or any billion pound business really caring too much if any single club is banned for a couple seasons. Im sure they would prefer the biggest names were in the competition but you overestimate any one teams worth.

  12. I'm sure they would be bothered if the viewing figures dropped.

Ultimately, there will be more tuning in to watch Real Madrid, Juventus and/or Man Utd, than Valencia, Napoli and/or Tottenham.

PS - personally, Id prefer to watch Napoli then Juventus but you know what I mean <ok>

liverpool, small ground, lose 2 to 3 million a week to utd...massive disadvantage.
