Forestieri exclusive: ‘I cried when I had to leave Watford’ AUG 31, 2015BY KEVIN AFFLECK7,340 VIEWS5 Fernando Forestieri has revealed that it “broke my heart” when he received the call to say he he was free to seek a move away from Vicarage Road – and that the ovation he received from the fans during the Southampton game will live with him for a long time. And in an emotional interview with WD Sport this morning, the Argentine-born forward also told us that he was completely in the dark over interest from Leeds United and was upset by abuse he received from followers of Leeds on social media. Forestieri was announced as a Sheffield Wednesday player on Saturday, after signing a four-year contract at Hillsborough. The clubs are thought to have agreed a transfer in the region of £3milllon, a good deal for a player who was never ever really first choice at Vicarage Road during his three years with the club and one whose maturity never matched his obvious talent. The 25-year-old, who had just under three years left on his contract, harboured hopes of playing in the Premier League with the Hornets but that dream was dashed following a phone conversation with the owner last week. “I’m very sad,” Forestieri said. “I didn’t want to leave Watford, I wanted to stay. I love the fans and I love the club. One week before pre-season the owner said he wants me and that I can be a big player here. At the last moment they change the idea. I don’t know what happened. This change everything and one week ago Mr Pozzo told my agent he could find another club for me because the plans change. That’s it – I had to leave Watford. It broke my heart. I cried in the night because my heart is broke. I didn’t want to leave. I’m disappointed and sad as Leeds fans were angry with me on Twitter.
