Depends if he is match fit. Assuming he is, then I guess that he will play.

That said, Amat did ok last Saturday so Fernandez could be brought on as a second half sub?

Nah. If he's match fit he starts imo. Don't think he is though.

There are some suggestions that he will. personally I'd like to see him fight for his place and get there on merit

Huge signing. Our squad really is starting to look pretty strong! :D

Looking at Napoli's pre-season friendlies, he didn't feature in any of them. So he's certainly not match fit. Expect him to be introduced in the Rotherham match. It's unlikely that he'll be introduced off the bench against Burnley unless an in-game injury calls for it.

When Chico joined I had no idea what to expect. I waited until I saw him in a Swans shirt until I formed an opinion. Pre-season he looked the part, then he made a shaky start in the Prem, before adjusting and coming through strong. He proved excellent value at £2m.
I intend to give Fernandez an equal amount of time and won't be hailing him a great signing until I see him produce in a Swans shirt consistently.

There's a danger with an £8m, "Argentine international", tag that people will hail him a star before he kicks a ball and then get on his back if he takes some time to produce. Hope this doesn't happen.

I read somewhere that he's not the quickest so sticking him into the hurly burly of the Prem without being match fit would be a mistake IMO.
We need him to be a success as he has cost us £8m, let's give him every chance to get up to speed as we did Bony.

Change the fee and that's exactly what happened with Demichelis at Man City. We saw how that turned out. So you're right, the fans have to be ready to give him time. The Premier League is a quicker-paced game and certainly more erratic/frantic than other leagues where long-balls are fewer and farther between. So Fede will not just need time to get match fitness, he's going to need some time to get used to pace of the game too. He'll come good though. He's obviously classy and will fit our style, so I expect him to be a genuine first teamer by Christmas.

And wanted by someone last summer!

Reported on Sky pages http://www.swanseacity.net/news/article/fernandez-first-interview-1838225.aspx

Took advice from Michu, Jordi and Vazquez!
It says something about us and those players that he was given a good impression.
“Michu told me it is a family club and the city is very relaxed. He said I was joining a very good club. All I've heard are good things about Swansea.”

The win on Sat seems to have made an impact too.

Do we need to play him saturday ? unless of course we're cruising at 4 -0 with 15 minutes to go otherwise why disrupt the back four unless it's required tactically aka Taylor I'd start him on Tuesday ,theres plenty of game time ahead .

Why would we even think about dropping Amat on saturday as BK says this guy hasnt played in Napoli's pre season. We have plenty of time to introduce him into the side. It is a long season with 37 plus cup games to go and dont need to take a chance on him picking up a needles injury due to him not being match fit.

He will have plenty of time to show his class this season. there is no rush.

You don't become an Argentine international if you are not good, that you can bet on...If he proves he is fit and ready to play then of course we should play him. this is monks choice and he will decide between now and our next game...

Well he just can't be bad. He was chosen over Demichelis in the World Cup until he got injured...

We don't need to draft him in at short notice. With all due respect to Burnley, Amat performed well against United so I would expect the same on Saturday .. then we have him, Bartley, Jazz and Ash available for Tuesday. So I think he should be given time to acclimatise, get used to new surroundings and other staff & players. More importantly get plenty of fitness and stretching work done. It would be awful if he was rushed in only for a tendon or muscle to go and we'd not see him til Christmas.

Agreed Bob. I'm sure the fitness guys will get him ready and not rush him.
