Ferguson spits blood... was he trying to get a cut of the spurs money in the summer?

But when you have to pay £6mil for a full back that has played under 10 competitive first team games and isn't wanted by his club can you not see why clubs wouldn't want to pay it? English players are overpriced when they are being sold, and now it seems even overpriced when compensation is trying to be found.

Can't feel that sorry for United - compensation is their to protect big clubs coming in and poaching the best young talent from smaller clubs who spend the time developing the players - not for big clubs who just want to keep the player so no one else can have them and therefor maybe damage the young players career by tying them down to a contract and then not playing them and just sticking them out on loan for 3 seasons before they then leave anyway.

We had same situation with Ince, we got a small compensation package for him, he's gone on and improved and possibly will get another move back into the Premiership (ironically back to us) because we didn't demand a silly amount of money for him.

We all know every big club does it Swarbs and we all know the rules and compensation are really a sham when issues like this arise. It's the hilarity of bacon face complaining about it that makes him look like a tit <ok> The fact is Spurs have pulled a fast one on him and he's spitting his dummy out. People in glass houses etc

This is very true, but then I've no doubt the £6 million was at least partly in recognition of the fact that Spurs jack their own prices up as soon as someone is interested in their players. And remember that we paid up to £6 million for Nick Powell, who is younger and with only a season and a half in League Two which is probably not much above the Premier Reserve League where Fryers had been playing.

Ultimately Utd don't need that money but Crewe do, and like I said it may only be a short hop from clubs and agents using the overseas system to avoid paying fees to Utd to using it to avoid paying fees to Crewe. It would have been pretty easy for us to get Royal Antwerp to take Powell from Crewe for a lower fee, only to bring him over to us once he'd been there six months or so. I think then there really would have been a scandal.

Every club does it, and every club behaves exactly the same way when it's done to them. If Barca or Real started tapping up Suarez this summer, would you not expect Rodgers to behave in exactly the same way, ignoring the Dempsey saga and whatever had gone on in the past? Heck I'm sure Boro and Fulham tapped up players in the past, before suddenly getting all high and mighty when Liverpool made illegal approaches to their players.

Slightly different in the fact he wasn't out of contract and agreeing compensation. You paid £6mil because he still had time left on his contract and he was in form and has potential.

If UEFA/FIFA rules aren't mirroring ours in terms of compensation then why not have the FA balance it.

For a player to return within 2 years of his contract abroad the new domestic team would have to pay the original domestic team the difference in compensation?

If the move is a true one it won't matter, if its not; then the big teams will have to pay the right price. Protects the small club. And tapping can continue as it always has lol.

This is true, although in theory for out of contract players U23 the tribunal would set a fee at the same level as if the player were under contract, to prevent clubs losing out when young players are poached after their contracts expire. Wouldn't be too hard for the tribunal to agree the same fees for the players, given Powell has played about as much for Utd this season as Fryers did last season - mainly league cup and weaker group stage games.

This would work, tho it wouldn't alter the fundamental problem that transfers overseas are valued according to the cost of training the player, whereas those between English clubs are at market value. Still encourages English clubs to bring in young overseas players, for whom the training costs are in the low hundreds of thousands, rather than buy players with fees in the millions, and lower clubs can hardly thrive if fees cover the costs of the players they sell, and not the ones they can't.

Which is exactly why we laughed at Fulham/Jol for being bellends just like we're laughing at Fergie for his rank hypocrisy <ok> If BR moaned about a similar situation I'd say exactly the same, shut up and get on with it...but as usual it isn't somebody else is it...it's Fergie ranting again. I'm not really sure why united fans feel the need to be so defensive on this one. So you got screwed by a club exploiting a loophole just like you've been screwing other clubs for decades.

There's a thread about this issue on the United board. I think only one United fan has defended Fergie's comments.

Why the **** are we even bothering to debate what is essentially a United problem? I think they should be made to pay Spurs the difference between the FIFA and FA compensation figures just to get further up Ferguson's nose.

In effect the problem was originally United's. They did not manage the lad's contract and left themselves exposed. It's not as if United have not 'bent' the rules themselves.

So why are you so stressed by Liverpool fans saying it? Just bothered we're right about Fergie again?
