I have seen managers harass and berate officials before and not been punished. I have also seen Sir Alex being banned for this sort of thing before (so much for him doing anything he wants without being punished!).

Managers do this sort of thing every week up and down the country but it's only when the Man Utd manager is involved that the media have a field day.

I am just waiting for Man Utd to benefit from a poor decision from the officials so we'll see the mass uproar and hysteria. The decisions that have gone against Man Utd in recent weeks (i.e. RVP's goal not given against Reading, Young's wrongly disallowed goal against Man City, etc) will be instantly forgotten as everyone claims Man Utd always get favourable treatment and all the other boring crap people come out with.

It isn't just English football and clubs he's got a dislike of, it's England in general. Maybe he's claimed Manchester for Scotland.

I agrre you get poor decisions as I've already said but you get some really soft decisions at home, just no getting away from it. He has clearly told your lads to go down at slightest bodily contact. It was noticeable on Wednesday and is everytime we go there.

He's a senile old fool. The fact his sheep continue to blindly defend him is indicative of the lack of morality you have to have to "support" that club anyway.

Once he and Murdoch are gone there will be many that would happily dance on their grave's. I don't care about them enough to do that but I wouldn't shed a tear either way. Totally indifferent.

Not being funny mate, but judging by the last 3 or 4 comments you've made on this thread, how can you say you are 'totally indifferent'?

states that players and managers should

"never engage in bullying, intimidation or harassment" of match officials,

are you saying that he went on the field of play just to exchange belated christmas cards ???

Not true, Redknapp and Mancini both received letters from the FA regarding their comments about officials on Boxing Day. No such letter has been sent to Ferguson, despite him fabricating a very serious threat on a player's life and publicly asking for a player to be heavily punished. So there would seem to be a definite lack of equality there, or is that just media hysteria?

The man is a law unto himself, which tarnishes what should be an unequalled reputation in management. However, his latest comments are beyond the pail as they insult not Pardew, a Southerner, but rather Newcastle United fans, who have no part in this petty spat. He should remember that this 'Wee Team' are the club loved so dear by the same Sir Bobby Robson at who's funeral Ferguson spoke, but why should he excuse us, or indeed one of English football's most popular characters from his bitter and misguided rants.

Anyone agree that it's total bullshit that players and managers shouldn't be allowed to have a pop at the officials when they **** up anyway?

You go out busting your nuts to win and some hapless twat costs you? I'd be ****ing raging, I know how annoyed I get at the refs in the Costa del Sol 5-a-side league, let alone if I was anywhere near pro!

I agree that managers should be allowed to have a pop, but do it after the game has finished not during

Poor Fergie looks and sounds as if Pardew really got to him, to have an out burst like that.

Ferguson gets away with his pestering of officials more than any other manager, he pestered the officials all game, especially the linesman. Even Mancini & Redknapp have received warnings yet Ferguson gets off with free.

It is obvious he gets a little extra special treatment than anyone else, I'm sure FA Vice Chairman/Chief Executive David Gill has a nice little say in things.

The funny thing is has anyone watched the interview with Pardew that has Fergie pissing his pants? It is all quite jovial and Pards is merely having a laugh. He really is a complete beeling buffoon at times in front of a camera, for all that he is a great manager. Too high an opinion of himself but some people have never had class to lose to success.

I think a useful exercise would be to list in order which managers are the most aggressive towards officials in your opinion. For me, it singles out Fergie as easily the worst offender. Once you get past 11 it's really quite difficult to order them. I'm probably extremely biased on Hughton because in interviews he's such a gent...

    1. Sir Alex
    2. Pulis
    3. Wenger
    4. Allardyce
    5. Moyes
    6. Mancini
    7. Lambert
    8. Redknapp
    9. Benitez
    10. Jol
    11. Pardew
    12. Rodgers
    13. Laudrup
    14. Martinez
    15. Clarke
    16. O'Neill
    17. Adkins
    18. Villas-Boas
    19. McDermott
    20. Hughton

The one that always come straight to my mind is Rafa with his rant. The irony is that Rafa said Sir Alex gets away saying anything he wants (just weeks after Sir Alex had served a ban for his comments <doh>) and that Rafa wasn't punished for basically saying the FA and officials are all corrupt in favour of Man Utd.

How about Pardew pushing an official in a match earlier this season. What punishment was handed out for that? (Bad example. Just realised he was banned for 2 matches <doh>)

No-one knows what Sir Alex actually said, apart from himself and the officials. All we've seen is him looking cross and waving his arms about.

They received letters. That's really harsh compared to the touchline bans Sir Alex has received in the past. He was even punished for praising a referee once for ****s sake.

I think you underestimate O'Neill massively. Maybe we won't see it until he has a bit of relative success with Sunderland. Was terrible for it at Villa and Celtic. You have to remember who he learnt from. Cloughie. Proper little moaner.

They all are at times but I must admit the easiest to place are Fergie and Hughton.

Yes, but they did exactly the same thing as your beloved manager, who received nothing. Ferguson's ban was not only for publicly insinuating that a referee was bias, but was also because they chose to fight it. As for being punished for praising a referee, it is clearly stated in FA guidelines comments of any nature regarding the match officials before a match are strictly banned, guess who flaunted that rule? Moyes was punished for the same thing.

Get your facts right before you try to argue something next time.

Oh, and while you're at it, can you explain why Alex Ferguson is the only manager who is exempt from mandatory post-match press conferences? FA and PL rules state all managers must attend or they will be reprimanded, yet Ferguson doesn't do them? Not exactly equality is it?

    I await your informed response...

I couldn't really decide on O'Neill. I don't regard him as terribly obvious regarding aggression every game, just moaning, wheras others are more or less always in the ear of the refs barbing away. Pardew, for me, moans a bit, but isn't really aggressive, I only put him 11 because of the push... Pretty sure there'd have been a comeback involving the word "assault" had I not <laugh>

Once I get to around 10, I'd say moaning is the operative word, rather than aggression. The top 5 in my opinion are horrendous.
