I'd take any trophy (even League Cup) over a 2nd place finish in any competition. Apart from bragging rights over rivals in my eyes there is no difference between finishing 17th and 2nd,

Ask any Spurs fan if they'd have rather finished below us and won the Champions League and FA Cup beating us 5-1 at Wembley on the way to one of them or finished 2 places above us and come away empty handed. Last season was brilliant because it finally meant 4th could no longer be taken for granted.

As for United they are bottle jobs. Chelsea have never bottled the title from a commanding position, Arsenal have twice but one of those was with an inexperienced squad.

1997/98 was one of the biggest if not the biggest bottlejob in PL history. United only had to avoid defeat at home to Chelsea in 09/10 to win the title, even then they were given a free pass when Spurs beat us, they only had to win at Blackburn and the title was theirs. Just like in 94/95 when they had to win at West Ham.

History shows that United rarely ever win the league when it is strong. 07/08 and 08/09 were probably the only times.

Do you actually believe some of the drivel you write?

Ofcourse Man Utd have thrown the title away more than others, as they've been involved in more title races than anyone else.

It's like saying Jack Nicklaus was a bottler for finishing 2nd in 19 majors:biggrin:

Fair play but last season's choke was the worst ever. Much worse than the Geordies or 97/8 or 94/5 or 91/2

United did well to catch up with City in the first instance <ok>

The self inflicted damage of Chelsea not getting out of the champions league first round and being confirmed as the worst undeserving CL winner in history is much worse <whistle>

After choking the title two seasons out of three if City get close the players will have doubts.

Also they have signed the king of the bottlers RVP too

There's a difference between challenging and cheating with the help of refs <ok>

As CPofL has said your only in a position to challenge because refs help you get there.

There's simply no way in a million years you'd have put up a strong challenge this season or last without the help of referees.

Had games been refereed properly you'd have almost certainly lost at Liverpool and Chelsea and be some way behind City and Chelsea in the title race.

Money talks though, and Sky need to keep your gloryhunters interested and in order for that to happen you must win, as your "fans" aren't sticking around if you don't <ok>

That's the view from a plastic fan (Rafa's words not mine).

You had lots of help from the refs with your title wins especially blatant offsides <whistle> Without refs help you wouldnt have won anything <whistle>

So a minority opinion is all of a sudden wrong, when it suits your argument. The majority of people would agree that SAF is a great manager, so your opinion that he isnt must be wrong:biggrin:

    Getting back on topic

98 years ago today, the Germans & British troops brought a temporary ceasefire to the Great War and had a game of football out on no-man's land.

The fighting resumed when somebody was killed after being hit on the head with the football.
