To be fair he had a go at Cole because he backed up someone who had racially abused his brother and I think the reason that he and other didn't wear the shirt was because they didn't think football in general was doing enough about racism.

I don't agree. It seems to me that the point Jason Roberts, Rio, Lescott and others were making is that something serious needs to be done about racism rather than just pay lip service by wearing a tee shirt every year.
It's a personal choice and should be respected, like the Reading boss has done.

100% behind the players choosing not to wear the T Shirt. Kick make pretty little badges for people to wear but don't have the power to influence the FA at all.

The players are boycotting the tshirts because of the ineffectiveness of 'Kick It Out' and the wider problem of the FA/FIFA's global actions against racism (ie. paltry fines, inconsistent bans). It's nothing to do with racism itself.
Totally agree with that but there's got to be more than meets the eye with the ferdinand situation. Sir Alex Ferguson always backs his players so for him to publicly criticise Rio would make you think something went amiss there. My guess is that Rio said he would wear one and then, after SAF went public to say so, changed his mind. His prerogative of course but something's riled Ferguson somewhere along the line.
The only thing I would say about the players who find Kick racissm out of football to be ineffective is that i haven't heard any of them say what they think should be being done. It's easy to cricitise (and again they have every right to do so) but their arguments would be better if they came up with what they consider to be better solutions.
Each to their own but as Clarke Carlisle has indicated, there are much better ways and proper channels to make that point. All they've done is damage the fight by creating division in the ranks. Splitters are not what is needed at this crucial stage. If those players really wanted to make a stand, why not approach the PFA and explain what they want? The PFA can then look how they make their way forward. This publicity stunt only draws peoples attention to the fact they are boycotting Kick. It all looks a bit of an ego trip to me and is completely the wrong approach. If they wanted something more out of Kick, would it have been that diffcult to sit down with them and the PFA and actually clearly define the problems in the both the approach to the campaign and the wider issue of dealing with the problem.
Poorly thought out for me. This is evidenced by nobody being able to explain what their point is further than saying that Kick is paying lip service. This protest has no substance to it and has left most people wondering what the **** is going on.

Joking apart i don't think a white player would have dared to do it even if he had the same view as some of the balck players. You'd never win that one!

Was there not one game where none of the players wore it? I wouldn't want too much focus on Ferdinand because of Fergies comments. I agree with Ferguson's sentiment that it is the wrong approach completely, they are splintering off and dealing with the issue the wrong way. I'm not sure he has the right however to demand Ferdinand wears one! But that is just a bit of old school management in him. I think all those who boycotted have done nothing to help the issue. We are no further forward in understanding what they want to see change.
