QPR man linked with FA position as Dan Ashworth departs for Brighton
Could the Hoops face a fight to keep hold of their man?

The position of technical director with the FA has been thrust into the limelight of late due to the serious allegations surrounding the England Women's team.

Former FA board member Dame Heather Rabbatts called Ashworth's position 'untenable' after claims by Women in Football the FA did not carry out due diligence when Mark Sampson was appointed as England women's boss in 2013.

Ashworth helped appoint Sampson - who was sacked after evidence of "inappropriate and unacceptable" behaviour with female players in a previous role - in December 2013.

He did, however, stay on and was part of England manager Gareth Southgate's staff as the national team reached the semi-finals at the 2018 World Cup.

It would certainly be a big role for Ferdinand to step into if he was approached, but the former QPR striker has certainly proven himself as a man capable of handling pressure.

Ferdinand has been a central figure in the work going on behind the scenes at Loftus Road to build a long and sustainable future for the club.

This has included battling Financial Fair Play, developing the club's youth academy set-up, balancing the book in the senior squad and working hard to establish an entertaining brand of football for the Hoops.

While this work is still in the early stages, Ferdinand can be proud of the job he has done of late as he tries to help QPR back to a stable footing.

The role of technical director with the FA would be a huge opportunity, and one which Ferdinand would undoubtedly be honoured to be considered for.

He'd certainly tick plenty of their boxes but is he actually good enough for the job? He's had plenty of flak over certain decisions at HQ but if working with a fantasist is part of the remit he's home and dry...

Lets not disguise why he is in line for the job, although I will not get into the nuts and bolts of it so as to not cause a ****storm on here.

It certainly isnt his abilities in running a club. Nothing short of a mess since hes been here.

He's been sorting the mess that Hughes/Redknapp/Fernandes/Beard created before he came in - 'balancing the books in the senior squad'. Not an easy job, but he's done it bloody well imo.

Oh yeah, and he did it despite being black. That is what you meant isn't it?

Think about what you are saying becsuse it does not make sense. I am not saying his colour has anything to do with the job he has done st the club, it might have something to do with why he is being considered for the FA job.

I have it on good authority that he preferred to watch Citeh at Oxford United the other night than travel to Blackpool.

With hindsight quite sensible, actually.

Indeed.

And Bolton.

And Reading.

And England.

Hard to know really if he has done a good job or not. But assuming he hasn't had the final say in the Managerial changes, I think he probably has done well overall (young players, the Community, and recent FFP compiance), and the idea of him gone and McClaren running the football at our Club turns my stomach.

Have you read the job advert or the list of essential attributes?
