This is a definition from Ron DeSantis’s general counsel, DeSantis, the fella who proposed an anti woke bill. DeSantis' general counsel, Ryan Newman, responded that the term means "the belief there are systemic injustices in American society and the need to address them." That’s quite a thing to be against.
Is it that extreme a position to to believe that there are systemic injustices in society that should be addressed? Would you say that it's reasonable to state that no such injustices exist and that it should be illegal to say that there are? Should Sunak pass such a law here - a bit like the one he's about to pass stating that Rwanda is a safe place to send refugees, in the face of all evidence to the contrary?
There's nothing particularly wrong with "Woke" as a belief or an aspiration. The problem is, it's been hijacked and made toxic by the Authoritarian Left, who demand non-believers should be cancelled or sacked, that life would be better without courts of justice or police, statues they label unacceptable should be pulled down and thrown in rivers, highways used by ambulances and firefighters (not to mention serfs who just want to go to work or school) should be blocked for the greater good, foul words like "mother" should be banned as hate-speech, and perverted men that commit sex offences against women and then pull on a skirt should be housed in women's prisons. I could go on, there are so many examples of New Puritanism that fall under the Woke heading...
Your Woke heading you mean. Why do you keep bringing up this 'defund the police' nonsense as if it applies here? As I've said, woke is not a term I would ever use about myself, but if it's defined as having an awareness of systemic injustices and prejudices, it seems to me to be a wholly positive thing. Of course there will be the odd example of things being taken too far, but who on earth is saying that 'mother' should be considered hate speech? Those that bleat most about 'wokeness' seem to me to be pretty much exclusively old white heterosexual males who perceive their privileged demographic to be somehow under threat from people who might want to share its privileges.
Defund the Police was a policy adopted by BLM, BLM being part of the high cathedral of Woke. You can't disentagle it, just because it's ridiculous. The way much of Woke is put into practice is intolerant and ridiculous, and everyone can see that but for the Authoritarian Left. You must have read that transgender charities have tried to ban "mother" and replace it with "Parent who gives birth". Supported of course, by that epitome of freedom and free speech (not), Stonewall, which is respected or at least, much feared, by global industry. I find it interesting that you, who doesn't believe in national borders, is so keen to rely on borders in defence of this toxic ideology. And why bring "scared" into it? Are you scared of the ideologies you deplore?
I don't think I've ever said that I didn't believe in national borders, apart from maybe in a John Lennon 'Imagine' kind of way. In practice we're stuck with them, but they don't half cause a lot of problems, don't they? As in 'motherfucker'?
Nope it’s just one of those things made up, it’s not actually happened. One woman claimed it, the employer confirmed it wasn’t the case and she was sacked for other reasons. Somehow it’s now ‘women have been sacked’ for using the word mother, thankfully you’re not dumb enough to believe it. The questions out of this point should be why do people believe it? and why does one fake accusation then get exaggerated into multiple cases?
The only one that I could find… covered by one media outlet, the daily mail, even they showed the organisation stating it was for other reasons. As ‘women’ have been sacked, you’d have thought the instances would be easily demonstrated, they can’t, it’s an urban myth. Blooming wokeness not accepting one unsubstantiated claim as a trend against it. Not fair!!!
