In an interview with the local rag Felix has laid into the squad, even more than in his video: Players have sleep-walked into mire, says Fulham boss Fulham have allowed themselves to be sucked into a relegation dogfight because it has taken them too long to realise the danger signs, according to Felix Magath. The Whites' boss has also effectively accused his players of complacency because of a relatively easy run-in and says they may be paying the price for such a cosy outlook. âIn the last days or weeks they tell me they have 12 games left, or they have an easy schedule, that the games are not so difficult, so we are able to manage this,â said the German. âBut I think that was tempting fate by being too secure. You think everybody knows the situation â that we are on the bottom of the table." âI hope they are waking up now to this. The whole season they havenât realised that they are on the bottom of the table." âIt works step by step and nobody at the beginning of the season thought about it. The team was not built for a fight against relegation. Sometimes you are sure that you make the right decisions and only have bad luck or injury problems. You donât realise that the situation is serious. It takes a long time.â Magath has not yet seen his team win after three games in charge and is desperate for victory against Newcastle United at Craven Cottage this weekend. âThe next game is always the most important game and we have to win tomorrow.â Magath said. He's spot on with his comments about the players being complacent all season, as if they didn't think they would be relegated. I'm sure I remember Jol saying the same thing after the Cardiff home game about the players. Is it a case of ambition, that Fulham became a club who knew they couldn't compete with the elite clubs, and thought they had reached a high by getting to the Europa Final. Are we the fans to blame also, in that we seem to have accepted our middle of the road status far too easily. We should have really had a go at the Board and Fayed when Dembele and Dempsey were sold and not replaced, because for me that's when we lost our forward impetus.
SBMB you are probably right. A lot of us accepted out mediocre status... Not much we could have done on Dempsey and Dembele. Also the grocer would sell to make money...
