Indeed we have definite concerns at the back. I wouldn't mind mind losing Mbwia and Saylor. A combo of Shawcross and Caulker to replace them would be good <laugh> Never gonna happen of course. Its a tricky one but I do think Caulker or Shawcross replacing Mbiwa would change our team completely. I just think we'll still be stuck with the same worries over Saylor or Willo starting once Colo gets his first knock. It would have been lovely to see that combo of Caulker and Shawcross but then I suppose Colo too, 2 into 3 doesn't work for a club like us as we can't keep them happy.

I'd be happy if Ings was the next striker though I think it would represent taking a punt on the goals front. Obviously if you can get a Benteke, Lukaku, Ba, Remy or PEA you pretty much know they are gonna do it. Ings, Riviere and Cisse is a bit more hopeful. I'd still like to see Will Hughes or Grenier too.

This overhaul is getting quite interesting. We are not buying worldies but there is something exciting about the unknown quantity we will be come the start of the season.

Ings has just said he's stopping at Burnley. Will Hughes has just signed a new deal at Derby, and Grenier is waiting on Arsenals interest. Ba has gone to Besiktas. The Benteke rumour seems to be picking up pace though....

Have we signed Janmaart yet? Reason I'm asking is that there is no mention of it in completed transfers on the BBC website, although Riviere is there along with De Jong.

No, apparently there's some minor administrative details holding it up, last I saw said it should be completed today or tomorrow

    From his interview:

Riviere insists he had no hesitation in making the move to Newcastle once the club made contact over a proposed transfer.

He said: "When Newcastle phoned me, I said yes directly because Newcastle is a big club with many fans, with a big manager. I said yes directly.

"It was an easy decision, I made my choice quickly. When I was told Newcastle, I said yes directly."

I'm sure our fans will be loving that Alan has a big reputation in France <laugh>

Pardew is such a great man. I'm pretty sure he coerced mike, made charnley swoon and generally orchestrated all these six signings and still had time to call hatem a fat french bastard before he took the afternoon off to read up on famous tactics. Its his birthday today as well I think
