Tottenham's Tim Sherwood puts faith in Roberto Soldado for Dnipro tie ⢠Manager tells Spanish striker his luck will eventually change ⢠Spurs have to overcome a 1-0 deficit from the first leg http://www.theguardian.com/football/2014/feb/27/tottenham-hotspur-dnipro-tim-sherwood Oh dear, if only they knew Fruend had in fact been in charge of shooting practice and done such a training method with certain players!
and just to remind us Soldado was once a goalscorer!
Best video I've seen of him You can tell there is a good player there, some of his passes have been sublime this year. Hopefully it is just a confidence thing and when it repairs he will be unstoppable. Some good, proper forwards goals in the video, like the 3rd one (I think) where he times his dart to the near post and nods in a simple goal - simple because of his anticipation. They fill you with hope. Nobody becomes a bad player overnight. I think his confidence took a battering playing in AVBs system where he didn't get a sniff and now is still too anxious to start scoring. It'll come!
Of course he is a good player. All players have bad runs - it's largely a matter of luck. 'Form' is often illusory - people confuse randomness with reality. Pick class over form any day.
We may as well pick our strongest team now. Top 4 is gone so we may as well have a go at trying to win something. With the run of fixtures we have we aren't going to turn round a 7 point deficit (given our goal difference). Better to go for this now and finish 7th rather than go out of this and finish 5th. Who wants this all over again?
Good argument. I'm sold. Problem is, if we win it we will get this all over again (i think)! Its catch-22
Bumped onto this page for anyone who missed Beebs version of team news... http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/26357934 Thats it from me, I'm off for lunch in the cafe near the train station, then wagons roll!.......Iza comin!!....COYS!
I think we should always pick the team most likely to win each match and not devalue any of the competitions we are in. If the squad is properly designed that should lead to rotation as different players are picked to match up with the strengths and weaknesses of the opponents. That will avoid anyone getting burnt out. I hate this idea that we don't care about the Europa League. That attitude gets into the players heads, so we play poorly and that knocks on into a lack confidence in the following match. Success breeds success.
I'd take that Spurm! I wouldn't mind being in it next year if we were the holders! Not sure it would help us keep our best players but at least it would be some silverware! I'm actually quite excited for this game now. This isn't meant to be negative but lose this and our season is pretty much over so let's give it 100% and see what happens. We are a goal down so we should hopefully see some attacking football. COYS!
I was saying that after the Anzhi game: a hat trick, plus some of his interplay with Townsend and Lamela was great to watch...then in comes Sherwood and drops him from the side almost immediately.
In Sherwood's defence it's not been an entirely bad decision, granted it's probably hit Soldado's confidence hard but Ade has been arguably our best player since he's returned, where as Bobby has missed an open goal and fluffed a few one-on-ones/ decent chances in the process.
The Everton game was a prime example of this. While Adebayor wasn't great he got us the 3 points. I can't see Soldado scoring a goal like that. I'd like is to play Adebayor and Soldado at home given the fact we need a goal.
I thought much the same, sad to see such a drop in confidence as if you look at much of his goals, some hit the bar or are power strikes, the sort of strikes which fly into the net when you're confident, but when lacking, go flying over the bar! I liked how the creator highlights Soldados position before he makes the run to score, nicely put together video and watching that does give me hope that if Soldado does find some form, then we have a player. Now for the negative, as mentioned before Power, Rebrov, Shevchenko and Torres, fans where saying "form is temporary, class is permanent" their "class" never returned, ever! we could watch a video of Torres at Liverpool and the goals he used to score, he was widely viewed as one of Europes most deadliest strikers, since he moved to Chelsea he became ridiculed for his constant misses. Unfortunately we have to accept, that no matter how badly we want Soldado to come good, there is more chance he has been ruined as a player by his move and we're clutching at straws, but I sincerely hope he can prove this thinking wrong and become the player he was at Valencia, not just because we need a goalscorer, but also to silence the fans who have been ridiculing him!
That's because they flogged him into the ground, giving him painkilling injections to get through games when he was injured.
