Amazing pass from holtby. Imagine him and Eriksen in the same line up! Defoe deserves a premier league start. He's latching on to everything holtby sends his way very successfully.
The thing with Defoe is that unless he is scoring he brings nothing else to the table. Solly's lay off for siggy on Saturday was quality. A lay off in that position would be the last thing on defoes mind.
One thing that is very pleasing is that Walker is back to the form of the season before last. He is looking quality. The amount he gets forward is incredible and he's part of a defence that has let in 2 goals all season ANd he plays pretty much every match. I agree with the comment about Soldado and his team play but when Defoe is scoring I say play him.
But it's been a long time since we've had players like holtby and eriksen who can play the balls to Defoe that he likes. He requires a certain type of service, which he's now getting. The current line up is not working for soldado. He needs wingers who play on the correct side, ie Lennon. -a player who will cut the ball back for him. Defoe is best at latching onto through balls, which is currently suited to our style better.
Holtby to Defoe is rapidly becoming the pass to pick, isn't it? Lovely move in an otherwise dour game. Hopefully we'll just get the job done with little fuss in the 2nd half and move on to the game against the Spammers. Chiriches reminds me of Kaboul in his first stint with the club. Footballer first, defender a distant second. I'm glad that he's got the potential to play the ball out from the back and get involved in attacking moves, but he needs to get the basics right and stop pissing about so much. New to England and new to the team, so I'm sure that these things will be worked on and develop over time.
