    Or Mudlarking if you like.

Mud Men was good for seeing random finds found in the Thames mud and a bit of history although before and after each break the same content kept being repeated which was irritating: http://www.history.co.uk/shows/mud-men.html

Two Men in a Trench was very good, it focussed on battlefields with Metal Detectors being used as well as geophysics and trench archaeology: http://uktv.co.uk/yesterday/item/aid/528186

Hidden Treasure was a series about people who have found important finds with metal detectors. Haven't seen it but found out about it via google as I'm sure I once saw Miranda Krestoffnikov jumping up and down excitedly as someone was digging a target. She may have been on Two Men in a Trench one episode. http://www.locatetv.com/tv/hidden-treasure

Time Team - they use metal detectors and plenty of their digs are on sites discovered via metal detecting however the programme is quite anti the hobby: http://www.channel4.com/programmes/time-team

Hoard Hunters is a brand new programme about searching for hoards with metal detectors, haven't seen it yet but it looks like it will be good: http://www.history.co.uk/shows/hoard-hunters.html

    Any others?

Watched a documentary the other day: The Complete Guide To Metal Detecting.

Aside from the annoying background music which was loud enough that one sometimes couldn't hear what was being said, it was quite informative. It had sections on such things as choosing a machine, scheduled sites, reporting finds to PAS, etc. I'd like to have seen a bit more in the Cleaning Your Finds section which contained two bits of advice, one from a finds dealer who said to clean your finds in soapy water with an old tootbrush and the other from a FLO who said not to clean your finds in water or to scrub them. So that was as clear as mud. Worth watching for the virgin and the experienced alike. Available from all good torrent sites.

I've never been metal detecting before. I did do a bit of divining once on a Roman fort in the Scottish borders. Didn't find anything though.

    True story.

Not sure you can divine for buried treasure but it seems to genuinely work for finding water, no idea why.

You ought to get in touch with someone who's got a detector and see if you can have a go, expect there's plenty to be found round Edinburgh... http://www.scottishdetectorclub.com/

Dig Wars - a US programme where teams of metal detectorists are pitted against each other to see who finds the best stuff. Each episode is at a different historical site.

Not seen it yet but what a great idea, we should definitely replace X Factor with this and then the BBC will no doubt come up with their own almost identical show.
