Right so our team is selected and now just the small matter of picking a manager remains. One choice, 24 hours blah blah blah...
Ron for me. It was brilliant to have such a legend of the game in charge here and he brought a bullishness and arrogance that we really needed at the time. Warmed to him quite quickly and loved his little phrases such as 'we don't party when we win, we don't make **** when we lose'. Also the man who we recorded an 8-0 victory under and who was in charge for the stat in my sig. He also delivered back to back qualification for Europe which is unbelievable for a club like us, especially as he had players continually being sold.
I’m torn. Fully fledged member of the Poch style of play fan club, but those two seasons under Ron, ignoring the two month blip, were incredible.
I was torn between Ron and Poch...have gone with Poch. I loved our exciting, fast moving attacks in numbers whereas Ron was a bit more pragmatic. Poch annoyed the hell out of me at times, with his like for like substitutions and lack of plan B but when we clicked, the team were a joy to watch.
I respect and appreciate Ron and Poch’s achievements. For me get through the championship in one season was an amazing achievement and I did like his positive style
1. First silverware for goodness knows how long 2. Back to back promotions. 3, High pressing, exciting football. Record high finish in PL. 4. Scoring 5 in a half twice in one season. Consecutive record high PL finishes. 5. League Cup final. It’s tough, but I have to go for Poch, mainly because of the team he had.
I've gone for Adkins on the basis it's favourite. In ten years time, he'll be the one I think we look back on most fondly.
This is why I couldn't vote for Poch. I loved watching his teams play and he played great football and a lot I youth etc. But he didn't actually achieve anything and I never truly warmed to him.
I like Adkins, but it seems that what I remember as more time goes on are the things that annoyed me about him, the silly clichés, the hopelessly optimistic attitude even in the face of all evidence, and the fact that he was a lovely bloke who was treated a bit shabbily by Saints.
The guy who built the basis of our team for the next 4 years and paved the way for success, also a pretty sweet dancer. Pardiola is of course the correct answer
I loved him here, found his positivity infectious. He truly grates on me now though and I find any interview almost unbearable to watch.
Has to be Nigel for me. League One to Premier League in successive seasons, passion, wit, toil and cliches. On my bucket list to meet him, shake his hand and say thanks for the memories and the wonderful journey.
You’ve convinced me. I’m going Adkins because I lived all those things you didn’t like about him. Two promotions, 86 blue lines, 268 positive insinuations and 2,437 cliches. He’s in.
All right, I’ve had enough beer to get sentimental, so I’m changing to Nige. Besides, none of the others has had a song written about them.
