I loved Hammonds fist goal of the season against Leeds, Lee's wonder-strike and also Spiderman's long-overdue goal. Having taken those into account, the club of MLT scored relatively few goals from outside of the area! Actually, I am fairly comfortable with that.....
So many. It has to be that 26 move goal against Boro. [btw, how come it has gained an extra move..? It was 25 passes before Connolly provided the finish]. It was majestic, and Boro stopped challenging for the ball because by then they were simply dazed and confused. Lambert's goal against Leeds was volleying technique at its sublime best. I bet he barely felt the ball on his foot, such was the perfection of the contact. It sends the same shiver of pleasure through me as when I recall a Matt Le Tiss goal where the technique has been as good. Hammond's goal, at the start of the season, was simply a incredibly happy one. It got Saints off to the best of starts and will be forever remembered for it. There were so many good, great and happy goals, but those three stand out for me. It was like watching Brazil.
For me the most memorable goal, for personal reasons as much as anything, was Hooiveld's equaliser at Upton Park. Being in the front row of the Trevor Brooking stand, I didn't even see it that well, but it was a goal that said "God is in his heaven, and all is right with the world." It was a freezing cold night in February, I'd been made redundant that morning, it had taken me 2 hours to travel across London to arrive seconds before kick off, and we were losing 1-0 to our promotion rivals. Then everything changed, and the world became a good place again.
For about 2 minutes, it was Sharp`s second versus our fishy friends. Its a goal ! - no it isn`t, its offside - yes it is a goal !!!!!. A last minute winner against our arch enemy !!!!! Then the jammy sods went an spoiled it.
