I've only seen the trailer and thought it looked too mad for me!

He's not for everyone that's for sure, very unique filmmaker. If it was just weirdness for the sake of being weird I wouldn't like it but he raises a lot of interesting points and issues in his films. I get on with his dark and surreal sense of humour but again lots of people won't.

Good that there's stuff like Poor Things out there doing well as an antidote to the fifteenth superhero film of the year.

Watched Wolf of Wall Street for the 986th time last night. The Gentlemen is my other go-to these days.
Fight Club is my Friday night film and Rush was often my Sunday night movie of choice

When I was young and single, my flatmate and I would rotate The Rock & Face/Off as Friday night go-tos

We have the same taste.

What did you think, was there method to the madness or just a weird experience?

I enjoyed it mate, but missus wasn’t so keen she spent most of the time working out what period it was in.

Watched Dogtooth tonight, Poor Things director Yorgos Lanthimos' first film. Absolutely barking (literally) and a fascinating watch.

Watched Oppenheimer, Poor things, and Road House in the last week.

Poor Things the pick of them for me. An absolute oasis of originality and creativity in a desert wasteland of churned out "IP".

Probably doesn't hurt that I'm rereading Frankenstein at the moment.

Oppenheimer was damn good but couldn't help but feel it was let down in the same way all Christopher Nolan films are, the director disappearing fully up his own arse at times. Very, very good though.

Less said about Road House the better.

Poor Things the pick of them for me. An absolute oasis of originality and creativity in a desert wasteland of churned out "IP".

I've got so little time for mindless Marvel-ness, it's my own fault for watching it really. I'm just not its audience.

I generally can't abide Nolan, always get the impression he's close to greatness but ends up falling spectacularly short. Few pretty big problems aside, Oppenheimer was pretty brilliant though.

Definite no to any Marvel ****e that feels like it's churned out by AI, I don't mind something fairly mindless if it's got some good bone crunching fight scenes and for me Road House had enough character and humour to be watchable.

Watched Dune: Part two yesterday and I thought it was superb. For me it was a proper cinematic spectacle that I rarely see these days, really glad I ventured to the cinema to see it on the big screen.

I've never read the books and to be honest I'm not sure I have the imagination to visualise the scope of the worlds created. It is an epic. Almost 3 hours long (after the first 3 hour film) and it still felt like parts of it were rushed and could have been twice as long.

The main actor is brilliant in it for my money. So is most of the support, though it was a star studded cast. Austin Butler stole the scene in each one he was in. Superb.

The only minor gripes were Christopher Walken being the wrong choice for his role and Javier Bardem's character having a bit too much Monty Python about him.

Solid 9/10.

Read the book and loathed it but went into the first film open minded. Thought they missed out some of the more interesting plot lines but that it was a superb film.

The second half of the book was especially iffy but Villeneuve and the cast have proved they can make something of that heap of **** so really looking forward to it.

Can get my head around the fact Thuthir Hawat or whatever he is called was dropped from the first film as he was pretty integral to the second half of the book.

Looking forward to it all the same!

I thought the book was superb. Much more subtle than the films. I came out of the second film thinking they were trying too hard to be Lord of the Rings. Great spectacle though. Not sure Timothee Chalomet is right. But he seems to be flavour of the month. Zendaya I could watch all day.

On the subject of "Dune"....

On Iron Maiden's 4th album (Piece of Mind) they wrote a song called "Dune", based on the novel. They contacted the author Frank Herbert for permission to use it, but he refused. Herbert's agents response read as follows: "No. Because Frank Herbert doesn't like rock bands, particularly heavy rock bands, and especially rock bands like Iron Maiden."
The song contained many seemingly senseless words, including "Fremen," "Caladan," "gom jabbar" and "Muad'Dib", all of which were derived from the novel.
Legal action was threatened if they use the title "Dune", so they changed it to "To Tame A Land"....the lyrics remained unchanged.

Really really weird one. I hated the book.

The film then left out the bits of the book I did like, the guilds, the mentats, etc. And I loved the film.

How is that for a head scratcher.

Watched Sisu on Sky the other day, good film. It's set in Finland near the end of WW2 and it's about a squad of Nazis pissing off a random old Finnish bloke, and spending the rest of the film wishing they hadn't because he happens to be a legendary ex commando known for his brutality and inability to die.

Good solid revenge story with little dialogue and Tarantino style action scenes. Apparently it's from the people behind John Wick but this is much better imo.
