Watched the Wes Anderson version of The Wonderful World of Henry Sugar tonight. Enjoyed it on the whole but I was wary about pretty much a full length book being made into a 40 minute film and I think I was right, it was very brisk and there was barely a second where someone wasn't (rapidly) talking.
Shame to put so much time and effort into a project and rattle through it without giving it any time to breathe. Didn't give any opportunity to care about any of the characters.

Last night l watched Reptile on Netflix, if you like a thriller with a twist, you should enjoy this.
They also made another three and I think they about 17 minutes long each. So you will probably find the whole project took the same time.and resources as a full length film.
It was different in the way it was done, the narration with the background changing and being moved like a theatre set. But I found the story a bit bland!
Yeah I noticed those cued up afterwards, I'll give them a watch too. The story of Henry Sugar is very good I've read it a couple of times, but the film didn't really work for me. The main character felt like an afterthought.
I like Wes Anderson but as time goes by he gets drier and fussier, I prefer his older films which had more heart and human interest.
I got the impression that there was supposed to be some character development (starts wanting to use the skill to get even richer but in the course of learning it changed to the kind of person who would rather give it away!), but it just wasn't there other than it being mentioned!
You're right he's supposed to be a completely different person by the end of it and that's the point, that anyone can become a better version of themselves if they try hard enough.
They might tell you something like that in the film but when they're all stony faced deadpan it's hard to feel it. I did enjoy the theatre set thing, one of his earlier films Rushmore had a play within the film and it was great.
Al Pacino didn't know he was going to lash the icecream off of the table and drive on in. Apparently Al **** himself and loved what Graham had done.

I would add Men of honour as De Niro steals the show and I like Remember the titans as well
Watched it today, good film. Solid well written story with quality acting and plenty of atmosphere. Benicio Del Toro was great as is usual, brought a lot to the character.
Similar in style to True Detective.
Not exactly a film but the Continental on amazon prime is class. Three feature episodes of how Winston became manager of the Continental in the 70s. Absolutely class. Mel Gibson must have had a blast while he was shooting his scenes, he wasn't as mad when he was Max as he is in this.
Halfway through the second episode, just had to pause it as knackered but decent so far.
Just watched a Youtube documentary about that, what a bunch of inbred ****ers they were down there
