The first half particularly. The second is a great short war film but the first is genius.

absolute genius. The second act was good, but like you say, first half was pure class. Some of the quotes aswell.

"You climb obstacles like old people f**k"

"Then quit you Mickey mouse walrus looking piece of ****"

"Is that you John Wanye....is this me?" Who said that? Who the **** said that".

"What's that? what the **** is that"? "Sir a jelly doughnut Sir,"A JELLY DOUGHNUT!?".

The drill instructor is probably one of the best characters from any movie, you can tell he was a real Marine Drill Instructor.

definitely. That's why watching Toy Story growing up and now with my family I still have a little smile when I hear his voice

God it feels like it's been ages since I watched a really good film. Not repeats, something new and something original that makes you go "wow". Feels like it's all sequels, prequels and reboots these days....

Quality thread @John Wick

Talking about war films, I thought Hacksaw Ridge was excellent.

Some other top films for me are the well known ones like:

Goodfellas
The Green Mile
Aliens
Fight Club
This is England

An older classic: Midnight Express

I saw ‘Manchester by the sea’ recently and it was very good, with Casey Affleck and Michelle Williams. Pretty slow though so you’ve got to not mind that type of film.

Edit: I’ll add American History X

Last night we watched The Gray Man on Netflix. If you like full on action you'll probably like this.

Reading through bring back some memories of very good films, but didn't see mention of my favourites which l watched last week.

Casablanca is possibly the best ever directed Michael Curtiz, with the beautiful Ingrid Bergman, and of course Humphrey Bogart. A supporting cast including Claude Raines Sidney Greenstreet, and Peter Lorrie. Outstanding
