So, it's a real programme! Not a stitch up then. I wasn't quite sure after Staines' post about Bracknell and Ellers comedy duo. Might try to watch it later on (work permitting). Thank Steel.
Can't believe no one's mentioned Steptoe and son or The Likely Lads, both superb. As far as sitcoms go Fawlty Towers, Blackadder and Only fools and horses were pretty much faultless. Too many great comedians to mention but Tommy Cooper and Les Dawson were just utter geniuses !
Good point Hammers.....I recently saw some of the old Tommy Cooper stuff on TV and he really was a genius....hated him at the time but looking back on it, with an older head, he was a master of his game. Same with the Old “Carry On” movies.......some comedy gold there from the likes of Sid James, Charles Hawtrey and Kenneth Williams.
On some channel last night, might have been channel 5, they had a programme showing the top 20 Morecambe & Wise sketches..... pure brilliance....Mr Andre Preview.....
As said on here Dave Allen was a master of his craft and unfortunately his shows wouldn't be deemed suitable for airing these days , the same goes for Stanley Baxter another comedy great.
I'm afraid the sitcoms made these days are very poor and I wonder just how much is down to crap writing and acting and how much is down to having to be politically correct ?
BBC Alba is a different channel to BBC Scotland....it's all Gaelic on Alba, cannae understand a word of it
They've done a couple of Dave Allen specials recently, think I saw one last Christmas. Used to love his shows growing up
It was a good job the had the brilliant Borgen on Alba as they put up the Danish in English subtitles otherwise nobody would have understood anything.... We have the same here with TG4 which is the Irish language station.... subtitles are a must....
Dunno if they can be classed as “sitcoms” but The Office and Extras were fantastic. What’s a sitcom nowadays you can think of ? I honestly can’t name any
Me n Mrs Steels enjoy Ghosts....it's stupid, funny, and really well acted - and has been a massive success overseas. Really didn't like The Office, didn't get the fuss - but I've never worked in one so expect most of the jokes went over my head....and Gervais is full of himself. Out at the same time, loved Phoenix Nights, far more relatable to me, and Peter Kaye was brilliant in it.
I watched Phoenix Nights a couple of weeks ago, and was hoping my 16 year old would find it hilarious.....sadly she didn’t. And to be fair, it wasn’t as good as I remembered it to be
Richard Prior, Lenny Bruce, George Carlin, Bill Hicks, Mark Thomas, Ronnie Barker, Richard Herring, Stewart Lee, Anthony Jeselnik, Doug Stanhope, Rob Newman.. there’s a few comedians anyway
Couldn’t say if mrs browns boys is any good, never watched it because it looks ****ing ****e, I suspect it’s on a par with Micky Flanagan and his **** joke. Father Ted as sitcoms go was brilliant
