One of our favourite players of the 1960's and 1970's is surely Keith Peacock. First ever player in English football to come on as a substitute in a match. 567 appearances for Charlton in League & Cups. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keith_Peacock From the 1920's I would probably say George Armitage. Almost certainly the first Charlton player to win an England cap while playing for CAFC (in 1924). A staunch believer in the amateur game as well. Never took a penny from the Club, ran his own local business for a living. Was recognised as one of the best amateur footballers of his era. Wounded in WW1 and caught TB, which recurred later in his life. Fought back to fitness and played 8 seasons for the Addicks as a defender and half back. Struggled with what we now call post traumatic stress from the War. Passed away in 1936 after being admitted to a sanitorium. My other favourite 1920's player would be right back Norman Smith. He did play in the 1930's as well - 14 seasons in all between 1922 and 1936. Still the only player in CAFC history to win two Champion's medals; 3rd Division (South) 1929 under Sandy MacFarlane 3rd Division (South) 1935 under Jimmy Seed Probably the only Charlton player ever to feature in three promotion seasons as well; 1929, 1935, 1936. Made 449 appearances in League & FA Cup combined. If other Cup ties and Friendlies were added that number would be pushing 500.
