Alan Walsh, Andy Cole, Super Bob, Tinman and Scotty for me. I also thought Mickey Bell was one of our best left-backs of the last 30 years

I don't think anyone has mentioned Chris Garland, and that, in some ways, surprises me. Great club servant and a decent striker in his time. Who can ever forget his two goals against Liverpool in May (I think!) 1977 in front of 38,600 at a packed Ashton Gate.

You are correct it was away.

I was at Ashton Gate that day watching the reserves.

Remember the old half time score boards at either end of the ground?. At reserve games the man putting up the scores would initially do that at half time (obviously). After about 10/15 minutes into the 2nd half he would remove the scores but leave the City score in place. During the 2nd half he would alter that score if any goals were scored in the game and if you saw him running to alter the score you knew City had scored and a big cheer would go up from the crowd, if he walked head bowed you knew that the opposition had scored.

It was great that day seeing him running 3 times to put the score up.

I'll never forget his goals against Liverpool on that Monday night.
The result allowed City to go 3 days later to Coventry with the chance to stay up.
    The rest is history.

Not sure how he is these days, the last I heard I think he was in a hospice.
    Anyone know anything?

I never really took to CG after he left [ £100k? ] then came back … I did lose a bit of interest in City after JG left …. not as deeply as WIZ when LJ arrived … :emoticon-0105-wink: .. job pattern changed around the same time and enthusiasm meant my enthusiasm for changing shift pattern to go to games became selective

Yes <rose> R I P "bite yer legs" <rose> In the day there are a lot of players who stand out as " above the norm" no pun intended .. who in later life get elevated into the mantle of " now he was a star act " I wonder who our grand children will be nominating as todays players in the same vein ….
