Sheff Wednesday gets my vote. Never heard anything like it! Also really enjoyed the Scunthorpe game. Mainly because of the rape we dished out that day. Didn't make it to the Emirates or Old Trafford so can't comment. Must have been great though! Leeds was probably the best this season, but not ever.
Would be West Brom for me in 08, simply because I was there. Overall would be Yeovil then Arsenal I think.
It's bin awhile ... 1. Bradford PA 2 City 3, FA Cup 1st round 1966 - played in pea soup fog, huge cheer whenever we saw the ball. 2. 2-2 at Stamford Bridge was a game to remember too (a kid with a blue and white scarf came up to be after the game and told me we were not going to win the replay cos Chelsea was going to buy Waggy - didn't have a Russian accent tho!). 3. Crewe 1 City 4: 1964 Chilton scored a few after CB tried to convert him to a winger
Hardly a surprise that the Arsenal away game in the first PL season is winning. 2-1 win and the day the world took notice of Hull City.
A hard choice to make, Wednesday away in December 2004 was a great night and it showed we could go to the big grounds and win. Going for the game at Old Trafford though, to see us pull it back to 4-3 and give the best team in England a real scare on their own pitch is something I thought I would never see. I can still see Rooney getting wound up near the end of the game! If I'd gone to The Emirates that would have won it though. Another good one no one has mentioned yet is Bradford away in 2005, we won 2-0 and effectively sealed promotion.
Brentford 0 City 2 great escape season. Took us off the bottom of the league. 3 hours from Beverley, great boozer, great company, abused John Fieldhouse, and goals from Alcide and Williams. We are ninety first said we are ninety first. . . .
For most it will be long before your time, but 2-2 draw at Stamford bridge in 1966, stands out in my memory as the best way game I have enjoyed.
Agreed John. But Hull City had a very good team that season anyway. Better matched overall imo. Only ref. Jack Taylor robbed us of a penalty and a chance to win the game @ the Bridge. By the way, The Old Stamford Bridge was far better than the plastic version we have now. Loved the shed end.
I voted for the Arsenal game. I have a couple more for your consideration (personal favourites): Wimbledon 1 Hull City 2 - 08/01/1983 - Wimbledon went up as Champions that year, we were 2nd. Burnley 0 Hull City 2 - 15/05/1984 - One more goal ... Leyton Orient 4 Hull City 5 - 10/11/1984 - 1-4 down to 5-4 up.
Over to my husband. " The best away match I have attended by a country mile.My experience of that day(and night) is covered in the current History Thread. A real treasured memory."
I can't believe no one shares my favourite away day. Three years ago, Wigan in the FA cup. Got hammered 4-1 and it was -47 degrees. I had a great day pissed up on a concoction of Brandy and Port that I'd cleverly distilled into a couple of hip flasks. I felt like the assassin on The Day of the Jackal as I entered the ground. That's how I roll.
Yeovil for me. It's where our meteoric rise up the leagues began. Ashbee curling that shot into the top corner wtf ?
Certainly was Mrs B, I remember cycling down Willerby road Saturday morning in a snow storm to meet the bus outside ABC in town, by the time we got to London it was a warmish spring day. After the match which was thrilling being 2-0 down and coming back to draw, we have a great night out in London.
As no-one's mentioned it - Wigan when we'd just about been relegated from the Prem. Purely for the comedy atmosphere. "We only need 20 more....."
Wednesday away, Barmby's volley over his shoulder was pure bliss. After so many years of being so ****, to really do over a team with the history and reputation of Wednesday on their own patch when we'd been playing away in sh1thole market towns for 10 years was amazing, but also made all the more sweet due to me living in Sheffield and most of my mates being Wednesday fans. Though I must say if i'd been at the Arsenal game that could have pipped it, though watching it with my best man who is an Arsenal fan in a pub full of Arsenal fans was particularly sweet!
