Queued behind Uriah Heep at a hotel reception in Siberia some time ago, they were giving it large to the receptionist because their electric blankets weren't up to scratch, rather tarnished their rock god image in my eyes

The Bends is my favourite not a weak song amongst it. To that I'd add the following which influenced me when growing up:

The Chords - So Far Away
    Blondie - Parallel Lines
    Joy Division - Closer
    Stereophonics - Word Gets Around
    Nirvana - Nevermind
Rage Against The Machine - Rage Against The Machine
    The The - Infected

The The are (were?) a great band. Infected and Dusk are superb LP's.

Many of the individual selections are coloured by our respective ages. Its v interesting to see the '70's / Punk post-punk new wave / 80's and latterly the 90's dance choices from us all. Paints a mental picture of you lunatics I have yet had the pleasure to meet.

Sadly I seem stuck (SB73 like) in a regressive furrow back to the late 70's / early 80's punk new wave movement. If I play Bow Wow Wow much more on my morning commute across Doha my head might just implode

I'd say music has more influence during a persons formative years & so tend to favour those periods, so whilst I've found plenty of other good/great albums since it's still those earlier one that instantly take me back to different events in my life which later albums don't tend to do. I think a few of my fellow commuters are a bit weary when they see this nodding, grinning stranger as I sit there listening to a classic & am transported back to some more carefree days:biggrin:

I'll raise your 'Dark Side of the Moon' with 'Wish You Were Here', both as we know from Pink Floyd.
Both great albums, depending on how we feel at the time.

DSOTM and WYWH are both classics and I'd like to give honourable mentions to The Wall and The Division Bell,

Yeah would agree with that although I listen to new music nonstop - have you tried the CDNX online radio station? - I still have to play 'Pale Shelter' a couple of times a week to keep my head together

Yes, Matt Johnson did a video album of Infected. I have it on DVD at home and it is powerful stuff. A massively under-rated album that. I first heard The The through his Uncertain Smile single, the 12'' of which still sounds good to this day.

Great to see Closer in there again as well. Classic.

    Hunky Dory David Bowie
    Whats Going On Marvin Gaye
    Aqualung Jethro Tull
    Black Sands
    The North Borders Bonobo

    Dare I say Glitter

Before cassettes we had no option but to play a album or a stack of singles. Funny old life but the question is is this it? Have we saturated music I can't see how it can get better when we carry on average 1000 songs with us at all times

Would be great to have a world official album chart where anyone could tap in and influence the rankings in real time But even then most of us would look underground

Music makes culture and these idiot shows on TV have stolen all the money and made some people rich and powerful like that Cowell bloke
Does he deserve to be associated with music? The global face of popular music is a complete tool

    How did that happen?

Beck Mellow Gold and Sea Change
    Velvet Underground

Can't say I've heard or listen to The Division Bell, 'KentGaz' but I'll take your word on it.
I particularly like certain tracks from Animals as well, which I beleive followed WYWH.
A completely different approach ............... some of it great, as with much PF, other part not so.

I'd forgotten about The The...Matt Johnson was ahead of his time, he wrote The Sweet Bird of Truth 5 years before the first Gulf War...
