I feel PJ deserves till Christmas, and if we haven't consistently been in the top 10 then he should be shown the door simply because it wouldn't have deserved a new contract, my defense of Jewell has been defending his right not to get sacked. Consistently in the top 10 at Christmas he should be offered a 1 year deal with automatic extension if promoted. (i.e he earns the right to manage us in the premier league if he gets us there) Any new manager if Jewell does go has to be someone who is likely to only slowly alter the team and not have a whole scale change which means we start over yet again. Clegg should either come out and say what the plan is above and beyond getting to the premiership as fast as possible or disappear as fast as possible, preferably the latter, especially if another signing falls apart at the contract stage.
What happens if we have a poor run of form to start off with but by xmas we are on a good run and look like getting stronger as the season progresses but aren't quite in the top 10, do u sack Jewell?? or visa versa, if we have a good start, like we did under Keane but then you can just see its not going to work out for the season. I think alot of times you cannot simply judge managers on positions as an ultimatum, you have to take into account previous form and performances aswell.
Although I see where you are coming from PTC there has to be a cut off at some point. A summer with him adding to squad that he already has should be enough, for me at least, to show us what he is actually capable off. I never read much into the first month as I would expect a bedding in period but I think come Christmas, unless we have a major injury crisis, referee madness or similar that can totally distort where we are, we would be in a fair position to judge. I think a manager deserves is two seasons, unless relegation is a real threat, to get his ideas across and players 100% used to them.
I don't think I put my point accross properly. I was neither defending/ supporting or saying we should sack PJ in that post. I was more speculating a 'what if' this situation arose. For example come xmas if we are in 12th because we had a poor start to the season but say 5 points off the playoffs and have just gone the last 10 games unbeaten playing some decent stuff do we sack him?? Or what happens if come xmas we are in 9th but have gone on a really poor run and next season looks like turning out like this season?? What I was saying is these are 2 different situations and it would seem stupid to sack him in the 1st scenario even though its is a lower league position but not so much in the 2nd(although do we again want to sack a manager in 9th position)!!
Because you would bottling a tough decision that needed to be made. all this well he done ok so we will give him some extra, and then after that its a case of oh well things haven't gone our way so we will give him a little extra etc etc etc etc
There is talk of JET being the subject of interest from both QPR and Fulham in the summer. It will be interesting to see the determination of the board to keep him.
If I think he should be sack I would say he should be sacked. Why would I bottle a decision? Its not like I'd ever be in that position to do it, so there's not exactly pressure on me to think anything!! And if you read the post properly I was just giving examples of scenarios of why you shouldn't just neccessarily say we should sack him because we are not in the top 10 or visa versa. Just again another pointless unnecessary argument!! Also thats why I wanted Keane sacked pretty much as soon as he came here. Mind you if I was ME I'm not sure I would've had the bottle to sack him!! JWM indeed I hope we do keep onto JET. I think we will unless we get a ridiculous offer come in for him. Next season will be a big year for him, hopefully he will get a decent pre-season and his run of games this year should leave him in good stead. I think eventually he will play through the centre though as a supporting striker!! I think it will do him good as well for his own development to stay with us at least for another season!!
I hope this is just baseless rumours but I heard from a good and reliable source that Paul Green from Derby is coming here in the summer to replace Leadboots! Jewell signed him when he was the Derby manager.
