Firstly your comments about Aston Villa being a bigger club. There's 8 aspects you could measure a club.

Fanbase: Newcastle win four or five times to one realistically
Turnover: Higher than Villa's annually generally by about £20m
History: Newcastle won 11 major trophies in the 20th century to Villa's 7. They won the European Cup beating 5 teams on the way, the only decent one being Bayern Munich. Nottingham Forest won the European Cup twice they're not a big club and neither are Celtic
Attendances: Our last league gate was 51,700, Villa's was 31,000 - **** small club more comparable to Boro.

As for Celtic being a world wide phenomena, they have fan clubs in various places, but more of them have three of four members so they register them, and it accentuates the myth they have a global fanbase. Their fanbase is mediocre, they'd never had an average attendance of over 40,000 up till 1997, we were setting world wide average attendance records in the 40's and 50's. There are no Celtic fans in Newcastle, I know enough Newcastle fans in Glasgow, you are stupid deluded Irish **** who has been to Parkhead no more than 10 times. You know in your heart all of this is true. FFS you were getting 20 and 24000 IN THE LEAGUE just in the last few seasons. Celtic pmsl.

We have a sizeable out of town fanbase, Villa's seem localised
Far more national and media interest in NUFC than AVFC
and the most important one presently, we are a much much better side with better players in most positions.

 

Must be disappointing then that their matches are nearly never shown on tv, and if they are, its a Tuesday at noon. And yes, I do know, because I now do live halfway around the world, pay the $16 a month for the channel that carries EPL and SPL, and once used to make an effort to watch Celtic matches too.

As a slightly more neutral view (since I'm from the UK, but have lived there), in respect to fan base, Celtic is MAYBE bigger, sure - though I think half have just bought Celtic strips for St. Patrick's Day. But in respect to football anymore, I fail to believe any Scottish clubs will draw a player over playing in the Premier League - and the Scottish league receives no attention in general international media (no posting of scores on standard tv stations, newspapers, etc. As for Villa, I find Newcastle get a lot more attention in both domestic and international media, and although Villa receives plaudits for consistency, Newcastle still receives attention for (relatively) recent highs that Villa havent' reached in the BPL era.

It certainly wasn't goalscoring...

 

We could argue all day about who is the bigger club but to put it simply, there isnt a big enough gap between them that a player would leave Newcastle for Villa, or vice versa if said player was happy at his original club.

 

That really is what it comes down to. Not to mention we're not going to sell him after only half a season, when he's carrying the club on his back, nor would Villa offer the necessary silly-money, he's going to be gone for a month or two, and I can't imagine him wanting to play for a 4th club in 12 months.

 

Not to mention it's against the rules.
