That Pinocchio line is priceless... Paul Jewell has put his foot in his mouth over the female assistant and with their league position I wouldn't be surprised to see Warnock at Portman Road before the month is out...
The difference is that other teams are likely to score from a set piece, we are the worst out of the 92 clubs at set pieces which clearly indicates we didnt work on them in training which brings me to another point. The corners were always outswinging and floated with zero threat, look at Sunderlands winner to see how they should be taken, inswinging and hit with pace.
Except the short corner which has a 100% failure rate with us and usually ends up losing possession or back with Kenny.
What has surprised me on here is the almost overnight reappraisal of NW as some sort of shouty dilettante, whose idea of tactics is a crappy diagram written on the back of Mick Jones's betting slip. There's a lot of complaints I have with the first half of the season, defending and attacking set pieces for a start. So I don't think NW was a genius, but I'd put a lot of our performances down to other teams just being better than us! most are established prem teams so I was expecting us to be bottom quarter of the league. I personally reckon NW has been unlucky rather than utterly clueless.
Warnock is a very similar manager to holloway, clueless tactically but will get players to run through walls for them. Thats works in the lower leagues but doesnt in the PL. Especially once the players suss you out. Thats why they turned on him. Set pieces were a clear indication that nothing much was done, look for this to change in the coming weeks.
I can because he is, as an ex player said "he doesnt do tactics" which is clear, he starts the team and that it for the game. Thats why hes got a 100% failure record in the top flight, as does Holloway.
You can't get away with that in the championship or league one either especially if you see how well we defended last year. How come Connolly and Gabbidon can't seem to head a ****ing ball properly all if a sudden. We defended valiantly in the air at Stoke. My point is, it's something more that i warnock suddenly being ****, as you say he must have lost the dressing room.
Neil had a 100% success rate with us in the top flight - he was on our and his target, when he got the heave ho.
YOU went to every game hoping for a 0-0. Nice. Not getting a shot on goal has more do with the other teams' skills in keeping the ball from us, getting better tackles in and taking the ball away from us in our own half and preventing us from creating any space. SWP plays fine everywhere, he runs everywhere. Haven't you noticed? And perhaps you've also missed the fact that the defense on the other teams were able to adjust to SWP's and our team's running into space including Bothroyd trying to crate space, thereby also covering the gaps when we wanted to get through balls there but couldn't precisely because they had us covered. Comparing Warnock to Holloway is absolutely crazy as Holloway never made it with us in the Prem! You obviously are blinded by only watching what WE do in any game and not seeing how the opponents counter our moves.
Once the players are on the field, the players decide who takes the shot on goal or what set-piece they will use to get at the goal. They practice the moves before they play the matches. If the shot-takers can't get the shot over the wall onto the goal, or the other side-pass plan doesn't work - that's not on the manager! The players on the field decided which play, so it is on the players! When Joey blasts his shot over the goal or Adel's curling shot is saved or completely misses the target - we're all disappointed. But that's not on the manager! You're hopeless, Flyer.
Think I'm with you on this Tooting, and another thread turns anti Warnock. We have had some woeful luck in the past 2 months which combined with other factors have left us with less points than we might have hoped for. That said, I am a big believer in the old saying, the harder you work, the luckier you get. Some of the men in hoops did not put in 100% and it showed.
