FAO Mick

I've it quoted at 5 hours work.

I am a programmer by trade and I'd rather pay an Indian who is vastly experienced with vbulletin that amount than spend about 15 hours of my own time learning the code and testing on a test server than deploying on a production server that takes 300,000 impressions a day - when one bad table join can keel the server over.
sounds technical mick ,it should be made so one account to every ip address so divs cant take the piss and once banned your banned

What you want done is 5 hours work?

Pay an indian if you want but i suggest you seriously evaluate what you are doing because i would guarantee you could probably find a european coder (if you looked in the right places or asked the right people) that would remodel vbulletin for a couple of hundred quid let alone remove a couple of functions.

I may come across as a complete tool but I've worked with many a website coders (i used to design websites) and I'm 99.99% positive i could guarantee many of them would not charge nearly that amount of money, in fact if you list what you want done I'd be more that happy to ask a couple of people.

In a normal environment with normal PHP you are probably right, but vbulletin is a bit different in that it's a monster of a product with tens of thousands of lines of code - and I think they have deliberately complicated the whole thing with loads of their own hooks so that no one can simply rip off their code. For instance it's actually impossible to use normal PHP within a vbulletin template, you have to build a stand alone product or hook in their own sudo language.

So the cross-board functionality itself is unique scripting to this board which was developed as a stand alone product and can be disabled via the control panel - in order to expand the functionality we need to develop new UI elements to let only the moderators from each board have the right to 'undo' the link between one thread and many boards. I've been quoted 5 hours and it will probably take the guy as little as 3 hours, but genuinely for proper coders who have knowledge of the code base that is what you pay. I could probably do it myself if I spent enough time but I count my own time as being more valuable.

Anyway, Eddie is a ballbag.

eddie is a ballbag ha ha ha im not gonna argue with that mate

vBulletin is far to widely used to be that expensive (I'd say the most experienced of coders would never cost anymore than $60-$70 an hour to code) I'd be a dick if i didn't suggest you at least ask elsewhere even if that means on the paid work section of the vBulletin site itself.

Also eddie is a legend, which can't be said about many fenians :bandit:

They actually do charge $70 an hour which is where the hundreds of pounds come from <whistle>

For the little work you require as far as i can gather and that includes the UI work i seriously doubt you need to be be paying top dollar coder for such work, you don't always hire the big company to do work to your house the same applies to anything.

skinman bok and alan go make love to each other whilst eddie is watching
