Didn't a lot of people think Paganini was the devil? They thought no ordinary man could play like that>

They did. He was a virtuoso. A lot of people today still steer clear of Paganini pieces beacuse of their difficulty.

There was even a rumour that his name PAGANini was derived from the devil,

Just out of interest Dave. Why did you ask the question about accompanying this particular piece?

Ah right. To be honest, although I admire technical ability, sometimes, from my point of view anyway, there jsut seems to be an attitude of ' let's see how many notes we can fit in and how fast we can go'.
Sometimes, this can distract from a piece.
Exciting music is a different case to 'flash git' type.

To me, you a slow melody where you can hear all the parts all of time takes some beating.
Classic example being Elgar's Nimrod.

Just my opinion mate though.
