my daughter had corrective surgery about 4 years ago at the age of just 24. she is an RAF operations officer and the bad eyesight was brought on by being in front of a computer monitor for hours at a time. cost a lot of money but was well worth it. don't go for the cheap option maestro, that's when problems can occur later.

I had a detached retina two years ago and on top of a rapidly approaching cataract, I have have my eyes cut, sliced, needled etc and funnily enough last Monday evening I had the last of the Laser eye surgery. Made a world of difference.
Only problem with modern cataract surgery is that they use a smaller lens to avoid an 11mm cut and now its down to 3mm. However, apparently at 61 I am too young for one of these lenses. As I still work, run, cycle, swim, play golf etc my pupils dilate too much for the lenses. Consequently I can see the lens most of the time. My surgeon said similarly that eye problems are increasing. Unfortunately most Health authorities don't see (no pun intended) eye problems as life threatening so are not providing any surgery.
Good luck to anyone out there with eye problems, until my detachment I had taken my eyes for granted.

I was told any sugery I had on my eyes would be classed as 'cosmetic' and not necessary at my stage of life.

These eye surgeons are fantastic, whatever they get paid isn't enough the skill involved is incredible. The fact that you're wide awake when you have cataract surgery scares you to death before hand, but there's no need to worry you literally don't feel a thing. For those interested, what they actually do is make an incision in your eye, then with a laser they destroy your natural lens. When this happens the lights completely go out and you're blind, all you can see is a kaleidescope of colours. The surgeon then inserts the artificial lens and it's effing incredible, seems your eyesight is restored like never before. The worst part of the experience is the anaesthetic eye drops they put in beforehand as it stings like hell but after a few seconds you can't feel anything. <ok>
