No. Not even a hint of a chance. He wanted to go to Real this summer, and couldn't cos he still has a year to go. Next summer he can go to Real on his own terms, pick up a massive signing on bonus, and probably demand higher wages as there will be no fee to pay. He'll sign a pre contract at 00:01 on the 1st January. You may be right. I'm just concerned that if De Gea is distracted this season then it will cost us games, and it will also cost us games next season if we have a defence trying to adjust after he walks off for nothing. Either way, whoever plays for the first half of the season, we have to be all out to get a top class replacement in the winter window, that way the whole issue can hopefully go away.
Consider this... Choice A.... Sell De Gea and buy Navas who's a very good keeper but is he the one we want? Choice B... De Gea leaves next summer and we have the whole footballing world to choose from for a goalie? I'm kind of inclined to lean towards B. I think Navas is a decent keeper (better than Romero) but do I really think he would have been a long term solution...not sure.
Read the first sentence of the final bullet point then search out you 'does Woodward continue to embarrass the club' thread Perhaps then you might get the joke. <OK>
I think the solution lies somewhere in between, which Swarbs alludes to. I think; De Gea goes back in and we see how he goes. It'll be clear soon enough where his head is and if all is not well we buy in January. Lloris probably, who.would walk to Old Trafford after gleefully handing in a transfer request. Win.
Like I said above, I think we need to buy in January regardless. De Gea is off in June, so even if he is flying it's much better to spend the second half of the season bedding in a new keeper and be ready to go in the new season, even if that means dropping an in form De Gea for the second half. Can't honestly see us winning the league this year, so I'd focus more on being ready for next year, although obviously that changes if we are top come January.
Before the Lloris name came up, my only drawback to that was that a decent keeper may be cup-tied... which I don't think would bother United but would bother the player if they were still in the competition. In essence, in January it would have to be a very very good keeper who's not in the CL.
It's not beyond reality he might sign a new contract, even if only to give himself a raise for the rest of the year. Real might well now be whispering sit tight and we'll give you a ludicrous signing on fee but if he gets injured he's ****ed. It's unlikely but sanity could prevail. If not though, he plays till a decent replacement is bought. Then he can be dropped. Honestly, I can spot a dodgy keeper and Romero is an identikit one.
We now have: A top GK, top FBs, a decent CB pairing Morgan and Bastian make a solid top DM pairing Attack: memphis on the left Mata on the right ( not my preference) then at the 10 either Herrera or Rooney or Martial and at no 9 Rooney or Martial. Supported by the likes of Fellaini Carrick Valencia Young Wilson . De Gea can only give us a better chance at competing for the top prizes IF it all clicks into place.
Martial just has to play centre forward. Rooney just could not help himself again on Sunday, he was drawn towards midfield and there was no outlet when we attacked, he just can no longer lead that attack. It's then a toss up between him and Herrera behind the No.9.
Go on fella, how old are you? No offence but you seem to be very much a Success United fan which is why some of us "older" types struggle to understand your view of what United is or should be as a club.
I too think rooney is a better 10. Apparently Martial can play both 9 and 10 but he was bought surely to play as a striker.
See that makes no sense. I'm the one willing to be patient and see the work ahead. I'm not losing it every time we misplace a pass or fail to sign a player we were never actually interested in. What I don't understand is how I get stick for not supporting a manager and stick for supporting one. I may have been a tad extreme with Moyes (who wasn't in the end?) But this idea of me seeing no fault with van Gaal is annoying. Half the time I'm just balancing the hysterical posts from some posters. The knee jerk reactions during and after some games are hilarious. I'm not the only one who points it out either. If I was posting some of that, I would be getting laughed at.
Yes but the difference between you and other posters is they're able to have a reasoned debate. Diego, Christian and others may disagree with me from time to time but none resort to using terms like "meltdown" and "losing it" and "hysterical". You do that before we even address each other on a thread. They also have an open mind and the ability to actually consider what someone is saying, even if they disagree - something you really are incapable of. Anyway I'm done with this bollox. The irony is I've yet to be wound up by a rival fan on here bcos I can handle them, it's a friggin United fan who's doing my head in. I'm more annoyed with myself for being drawn into this descending whirlpool of idiocy with you. I'm going to ignore you, without putting you on ignore - as I believe you can make a valid contribution sometimes.
I dunno - being cup tied would be an issue if we were after someone like Neuer or Ter Stegen. But I can't see keepers like Cillessen being too bothered by it - even if Ajax were still in the CL then I doubt they'd turn down a move to Utd just to play another few games in Europe. Tbh, Cillessen aside, I can't think of many keepers we would be interested in, and would have a feasible chance of getting, that would be cup tied and still participating in the CL come January.
He wouldn't be cup tied - pretty sure you can represent one club in the EL and another in the CL in the same season. Watch us finish third in the group now I've said that....
