Manchester United notes Real Madrid’s statement on the attempt to sign David De Gea and sell Navas to Manchester United. The club feels compelled to provide some clarification with the following facts.
    - Manchester United did not seek contact from Real Madrid for the sale of David. David is a key member of our squad and the club’s preference was not to sell.

    - No offer was received for David until yesterday.

    - At lunchtime yesterday, Real Madrid made its first offer to buy David. A deal was agreed between the clubs, which included Navas being transferred to Old Trafford. The deals were dependent on each other.

    - In the last several hours of the process, with Navas at the Real Madrid training ground, Real Madrid were controlling the documentation processes of David, Navas and Real Madrid. Manchester United was in control only of the documentation of Manchester United.

    - Manchester United sent transfer documents for both players to Real Madrid at 20:42 BST. David’s documentation was returned by Real Madrid to Manchester United without the signatory page at 22:32 BST.

    - At 22:40 BST, minutes before the deadline, major changes to the documentation came through to Manchester United which immediately put the deals at risk.
    - Only at 22:55 BST were the documents that are needed to cancel David’s contract received by Manchester United from Real Madrid.

    - At this point Navas’ documentation was still not returned by Real Madrid.

    - At 22:58 BST, the transfer agreement was sent back by Manchester United, uploaded onto TMS and accepted – all before the deadline.

    - It is our understanding that the deals couldn’t happen because:

Real Madrid didn’t upload David’s documents onto TMS in time (Manchester United did)

Real Madrid didn’t upload David’s documents to the Spanish league in time, per reports it seems some 28 minutes after the deadline

    - The fact that Manchester United filed the papers on time was acknowledged by the Football Association, who offered to support that claim in any discussions with FIFA. The club offered this assistance, as well as its own timestamped documents to Real Madrid but they have chosen not to go down this route.

Manchester United acts appropriately and efficiently in its transfer dealings. The club is delighted that its fan-favourite double Player of the Year, David de Gea, remains a Manchester United player.

Whoever is responsible for the cock-ups, you guys must be delighted to still have De Gea? I suspect that someone somewhere set up Real Madrid to appear like complete fools. If anyone knows what goes on administratively in Spain, it takes double the amount of paperwork much longer to process it, hence the failure!

The Madrid mayor's office wasn't open so Real couldn't get their funding in time <whistle>

De Gea's ****ed now. Utd probably won't bother playing him all season now we know he's off in summer for nowt, so he's going to miss a full year of football. Wonder if Real will still be keen next summer after he's been playing U21s for a year?

If this happens, you are dealing De Gea the same way that Athletic Bilbao dealt with Llorente. He wanted out, Bilbao could have sold him for 15m, they refused so he spent the whole season languishing in the reserves and left for nothing afterwards. In one sense Atheltic Bilbao are unique because they only buy players from the Basque region who are born in the Basque region, so are unlikely to pay huge amounts of money from another Basque club.

That can't happen. Now he's staying it is imperative they get his head straight and him back in the team, the other option isn't good enough and I'm still not 100% sure of this alleged truce with Valdes.

What would having him in the reserves achieve? Nothing. No one would come out of it looking anything other than daft. All this sudden delight at pissing millions of quid up the wall is a bit disturbing and distasteful to be honest, it makes United less and less of a football club and more of what your average Abu despises us for and we, usually, rail against.

Yes, TV is throwing obscene money at the clubs and it's there to be spent but it really is all a bit mad in my eyes.

De Gea should work for his wages and play. And if so he gets supported. If the club treat him like ****e now then I will also support him. Now he's staying we're better off getting behind him.

Even if only because Romero is ****e!

More a question of what would having him in the team achieve. We might do a bit better this year, if his head is right and he doesn't sulk or throw a fit. But we just end up with him off for nothing next year and us back at square one, potentially writing off another season whilst we try and bed a new keeper in.

I'd rather us try and play a keeper we know will be here next year and thus can start to build a relationship with the defenders, which is ultimately what makes a good keeper anyway.

It's not like playing De Gea in every game is going to mean we actually get any money for him next year.

You really are a 2 digit IQ plank. Explain how or why you would think that? Have I said anything on the De Gea debacle <doh>

This is what I actually posted about it last night.

You see this is why you just don't get it UIR. You just don't have a brain cell to understand that anyone who criticises one fck up at the club doesn't necessarily mean they think the club is wrong in everything. It's called having a balanced and informed opinion mate, you should try it <ok>

    Romero.

Yes, I know he ****ed up against Swansea (reminds me of the last time we played a new keeper from the start of the season). But at least there is a chance, albeit a small one, he will be good enough to play for a few years and not guaranteed to disappear next June.

Every game De Gea plays from now on, and every minute he builds an understanding with the defenders and they get more used to playing in front of him, the harder it will be to get a good defensive base in place for next year, assuming we can actually buy a world class keeper. I remember how our defence went to pieces when Schmeichel left, no desire to repeat that just for the sake of trying to get another few points this year.

Do you think there's any chance De Gea will sign a new contract AND better still actually stay on beyond next year?

Put the general discontent we may all be feeling towards him for a second, do you think De Gea's demeanor and personality during his time with us has shown him to be someone who is likely to throw a hissy fit? I don't know why but I think he is pretty genuine.... maybe that's naive.

Not good enough. He just isn't, in the same way Taibi, Bosnich, Carroll and Goran weren't, nor is he.

Last night De Gea was leaving it was a good deal because Navas was coming the other way and he IS decent.

Now De Gea is staying he has to play because he's our best goalie by a country mile. Romero will cost us games. He already has.

My prediction is that LVG and De Gea will make up and De Gea will I think knuckle down. I can't see the point for DG to sulk nor for LVG to bear grudges too.

He'll go straight back into the first team. Romero is a bit too laid back and too slow for my liking.
