fergie choosing Moyes reminds me a bit of Kenny thinking that buying British was the way to go. We were constantly told by rivals 'you can't go back' as in re-hiring a manager but also there was an aspect of Kenny being out of touch with what was necessary to successfully manage a team. The days of buying best of British had long gone and so have the days of hiring a British manager to struggle until success comes. The game's moved on far too much for either of those to work.

    Early career[edit]

As a teenager, Rodgers represented Northern Ireland at schoolboy level, notably playing against Brazil in 1988.[6][7] He also represented the Republic of Ireland at schoolboy level.[8] He began his senior career as a defender for Ballymena United, his local team, in 1987.[9] He was signed by Reading three years later at the age of 18, where he played in the reserves. His playing career was ended at the age of 20 due to a genetic knee condition.[10][11] Following this enforced retirement, Rodgers spent several years playing in non-league football for Newport, Witney Town and Newbury Town, whilst remaining as a youth coach at Reading.[12][13][14] Rodgers spent a large amount of time travelling around Spain studying different coaching methods, and was eventually invited by manager José Mourinho to join the Chelsea Academy as their head youth coach in 2004 after a recommendation by Mourinho's assistant and future Premiership manager Steve Clarke.[15][10] He was promoted to reserve team manager two years later, and was kept in that position by subsequent Chelsea managers Avram Grant and Luiz Felipe Scolari.[11]
    Managerial career[edit]

    right out of wiki.

sorry but if a guy only got to reading reserves before injury cut his pro career short and was youth coach at reading while kicking ball in non league he really f'n started at the bottom and put himself out there. TO impress mourinho enough to get a chelsea job then translate it into a managerial job AT ALL let along translating it into a prem job then LFC level job is frankly miraculous.

So chelsea youth team coach is the bottom?

I know they dont have a youth team but I suspect he was paid well, had facilities and was fed on an evening.

I understand what many of you are saying but Fergie left them with a squad that won the title and had a few good areas. De Gea, Kagawa, Rooney, Hernandez, and RVP are good enough as it is. Rafael is alright too, and with Evra and Carrick able to do a job for one more season, he didn't leave them in shambles.

Replacing the team would be a hindrance to his successor - so you buy a new midfield, a new defence, and what? Leave?

So your successor is stuck with gears to a machine that YOU envisioned and doesn't have room to put his own touch on it.

Also, the Glazers don't seem to be the worlds preeminent authorities on football. The word of Slur Alex is probably better to them than anything their board would have proposed.

I strongly believe rednose was asked to compile a detailed report on what needs fixing, to identify potential replacements, upgrades to the squad, and future recommendations.

Moyesie then came in, fired whiskeynose's staff, and threw the report away because he wanted to put his stamp on the squad in a misguided attempt at charismatic "authority".

    The rest is (beautiful) history.

no my point you messer is that you are factually wrong (which you are a lot cos you throw these comments round about our club despite not actually knowing)

You said "I dont think he started anywhere near the bottom."

Ballymena as a player. hit the big time with reading in 1990-93... reserves then went non league and a youth coach with reading... until he got a break at Chelsea in 2004.

in 1990 to 1993 reading were in the 3rd division you div.

how much closer the bottom do you need him to start.... or do you only want to consider his career form when it suits YOU?

Really doesnt sound like the bottom for me. We are after all talking about Rodgers the manager, not the player.

Of course hes done well but you dont need to make stuff up to back up the claim.

hes taken Liverpool from also rans into title contenders, in no time.

Nothing more needs to be said really. Not sure why some of your fellow posters have to try and over do everything. Hes done ****ing great. I am actually envious that you guys have hit lucky ( as things stand ).

You end up with a forward thinking manager ( probably wont amount to much imo through the years, hes british ) while we end up with a joke.

At the end of the day, we took a massive gamble and hired a manager who quite frankly had no right to become Liverpool manager (based on his CV).

But he's made the role his own. And great credit to him.

Over the years, you'll find that ONLY British managers have had successful* longevity in this league. *disqualifies Wenger.

wow.... you seriously think trying that on is going to get a rise.... come on must do better.

If you think trying to cut out his entire coaching career that built to his managerial career is acceptable... well you're gtting laughed out of town as per...

    Back on topic #offtopicbatards

I think Moyesie ****ed up twice in the windows, ignored the advice given by Fergie, got rid of the former staff, and got scared as **** when he realised what a mistake he made.

Not a level playing field, a fellow British manager could only be seen as a failure compared to Fergie if he'd gets the same amount of time at one club.
