You said nobody in their right mind would turn down the utd job - I disagree, I think some would. I was comparing Rodgers turning down the Liverpool job [which he is rumoured to have done early on]. He may have wanted the job but his own integrity [call it what you will] wouldn't allow him to be compromised in pursuit of that job. Moyes should have done the same.
But he took it in the end so he didn't really turn it down. Moyes was never going to get offered anything better and IMO, he'd already been waiting four or five years for a bigger job to arrive.
Deliberately. Let's be honest its beyond belief and logic that Fergie simply nominated Moyes and had no more to do with it, the biggest sporting institution in the country has been brought to its knee's due to one mans ego trip, it was only a matter of time that the blame landed at the feet of the real culprit and this will now fester the longer Moyes is there. Its funny as **** though.
I think Moyes was waiting for a bigger job and who knows, fergie may have had him on hold for years with an unofficial promise. Every time a bigger job came up like Spurs for instance, Moyes was linked with it. I think he should have gone to maybe a Spurs sized club before accepting the utd job. It is arrogance to take on a massive job that you are not qualified for, because based on what he'd achieved so far, it couldn't have been self belief. To use a sporting analogy, you don't put yourself in for a marathon if you've never completed a mile!
What if Moyes is part of the plan? What if they recognised that Fergie would be a hard act to follow and thought someone else that wouldn't be as big a hit would be better for the longer term manager? Very risky though and its backfired big time too.
I'm not convinced he is out of his depth level wise, I do think he is out of his depth at that club though. What I mean is, I think he is a good manager that could cut it with the big boys given time to build his own destiny but he's not one for jumping into a already heated pan. Following a club legend thats been a twenty-six year main stay is not exactly a easy task and it showing. Spurs wouldn't have been the right fit IMO as the style wouldn't be right, part of the problem at Man Utd. In short, Everton was a perfect fit club wise but lacked the ambition. If they'd been taken over by a billionaire then Moyes would have been something IMO. I'm a firm believer that people and clubs have to fit, Woy didn't fit Liverpool, Moyes doesn't fit Man Utd, it happens.
Which is what I've been saying! The 'they' you refer to [who thought fergie would be a hard act to follow] is fergie himself
I thought you meant he choose someone that would struggle to build his own legacy rather than to lower expectations / the platform for which a new manager is to come in to?
He's not new to the PL - which is what I guess you mean by 'level' - so in that respect he is well equipped in knowing all the teams and how they play etc, etc, But ... he's never managed in top tier Europe so is out of his depth there which amazingly hasn't shown yet, but is surely about to! He's never managed 'ego' players so is out of his depth there ... he's never been in the media spotlight ... had money to spend ... had fans who are used to success ... the list goes on and on.
Moyes doesn't know what success feels like and for a club like utd that should surely be a minimum requirement.
It is of course Ferguson's fault. Triple fault actually. One, for making the wrong pick. Two, for having the arrogance of making a decision that shouldn't be his. Three, for making a decision whilst in conflict of interest with his oversized ego (which would get off at United fans saying about the new man "he's no Ferguson"). And it's United's board fault too, for giving the man a big decision that should have been made by them, and for not discerning that conflict of interest that lay in Fergie's old crimson heart. The sin lies thick everywhere at United - hence they are doomed.
the only blame to be directed at Fergie is for trusting another british manager. the fact is they are all dog ****, every single one, no exception. No matter which part of the isles they come from. the best they can ever hope for is a 1 season wonder.
They are all clueless idiots. Fooling fans of various clubs into thinking they are going to buck the trend before they slump back to being clueless idiots. British managers are midtable managers. Once in a while an exception is made for a season but things quickly return to normal.
