What I don't get with the bit in bold is, the club (presumably them) briefed The Athletic that the squad didn't appreciate Ralph's touchline antics and found him too emotional as their coach. And so the answer was Nathan Jones? I mean...
Maybe I missed it, but having listened to the forum, people spoke about the NJ meltdown after the Brentford game but I didn’t hear anyone ask if NJ was referring to any of the board members, when he said about pandering to others and not doing things his own way. I also didn’t hear anyone ask how they felt knowing that he had wasted so much time not implementing his style of play on the squad. If those questions were asked, in my defence I was following the Sheffield Utd v Wrexham game at the same time and can’t multitask.
Rasmus was getting so pissed off with all the Jones questions. “Maybe you should apply next time” made me chuckle.
I have watched it and am quite impressed with what went on, both sides getting their points across and getting a reasonable response. I am going to be unpopular but I currently think that our on-line support is so toxic and warped that it is unfit for purpose and is not going to help us rectifty the situation, it is only dragging us down to the depths. Looking at other Forums and I read that they are openly mocking us and calling us the worst supporters in the Country, I don't like being tarred with that same brush. I will continue to support the players and the owners and the man they decide is the person to Manage the Club even if I don't like him personally. I think some of you guys need to give your head a wobble and have a think about which is the better way to go, the only alternative is to walk away until thing are suiting your attittude better.
It might be a responsibility of the job, but I doubt it's a contractual obligation, and it still takes guts to stand up in front of an audience when you know you can expect nothing but animosity from the floor.
i guess. Though under the current conditions, I’d expect them to speak sensibly to their paying customers
Nicely put, although I don't actually agree that we are any worse than many other club's fans. I absolutely do agree that all the toxicity and tantrums help no one; and as for Jones, while he hasn't exactly helped himself up to now, the intense hostility directed towards him does not reflect well on the haters. There's quite a lot of snobbery there, I can't help but think.
I agree. Also watched it and felt that the old guard (Semmens and Steele) were much more humble than last time and it came across as pretty frank and honest. As has previously been said, frustrated that we didn’t get more specifics about what was behind the delusional interview rants. Otherwise I thought the supporters did ok to get the strength of feeling in a respectful way. Equally impressed at the board for facing up to it and hanging around to mingle afterwards. Really unclear what happens next as I honestly can’t see where our next point comes from but who knows, maybe all this nonsense will somehow galvanise a siege mentality. I think one of the most fascinating things will be how NJ handles himself from here - charm offensive or doubling down. He seems to be such a dick that the latter is possible but surely even he knows what thin ice he’s on. The other thing that seemed clear to me is that Rasmus is well aware of what the fans have been saying about him and directly addressed his own ego in making decisions going forward.
I don’t think it’s snobbery to want a manager that represents the city & the club in a decent light. In fact, I think it’s common sense. Why would anyone want a manager that acts like a narcissistic child and alienates everyone around him? Someone always brings up “the fan base” whenever something happens at the club. And it’s ridiculous. By and large the fan base has been incredibly patient. Look at the results this season FFS;
I thought the most telling bit was when Semmens said that there are / things going on behind the scenes that they obviously can’t talk about. I may have taken it out of context, but it was in relation to a lot of Jonesout questions being fired at them. Really hoping that it means they are looking at managers and availability now. Probably me just wanting to hear what I want to hear.
I dunno. I just remember talking to some Cardiff fans before Ralph's first game in charge for us. They seemed quite happy to be managed by a guy no one liked, in Neil Warnock. And they came away with the points that day. It's not any manager's job to be liked. It is his job to get results though, I acknowledge that...
I need to listen to the forum in full, and this is said with the admission I haven’t, but if I know one thing, it’s that people can say all sorts of lovely things, but unless those are backed up with demonstrable action and results, they mean precisely nothing. It’s a brilliant tactic to win back favour for a moment though.
I think you have to take club & set up into account. A siege mentality can be a great thing if cultivated correctly. But we haven’t been that kind of club for ages. We are a club that punches above our weight, does things a bit differently and tries to play attacking football. That is our DNA since Liebherr saved us. To suddenly bin all of that off, sticking with a negative manager, that doesn’t play the youth and has zero professionalism just shows a huge lack of direction.
Ignoring all the other analysis for a moment. The absolute #1 thing I’ve taken from the fans forum is: Henrik Kraft does not sound like what I expected at all.
Trust your eyes first off. There’s nothing to suggest anything good is occurring on the field, regardless of nice platitudes off it this evening.
We don’t have siege mentality squad either - that was the point I was making on Sportato re the Crazy Gang - and thank god for that. We have a squad that *can* compete (if used correctly) in the technical environment of the premier league. But not a hustle and bustle, siege state Championship squad, which is the only type of squad that Jones understands - hence Luton. That does NOT WORK in the PL, for any real length of time, even if you get it right.
