My dad's side are all from Stoke and support Stoke City, but no one enforced it on me. My mum's side were from Cheshire and they are all BS, again...no one took me to see games or bought me football tops etc. I went to school in Runcorn and you either supported Liverpool or United, the funny thing was I disliked United before I started supporting Liverpool because the kids I didn't like supported United. Also it helped that my best mate supported Liverpool and that is my very unromantic introduction into being a Liverpool fan. My god father was delighted, he wanted a son and ended up with 3 daughters. So I became like the son he never had, he's been a season ticket holder for as long as I can remember. He used to get match balls from the games and give them to me, also took me to my first match which was the '95 Coca Cola Cup final...an amazing first experience. At around the same time my mum married a cockney and he bought me an Arsenal shirt for xmas the cheeky ****. That present didn't go down too well.
In all honesty mate as much as we can describe it its one of those things that's almost impossible to put into words. #cheekykunt
Sorry Bluff but you haven't got a clue about the sensations and atmosphere that Billy and me are on about. As he said it was beyond words. Anfield was a **** hole but it was our **** hole and we LOVED it!!!!
I remember we always used to hang around in town afterwards waiting for the Pink then grab a bag of chips just before going home to try and mask the smell of all the ciggies we'd smoked
You want a picture painted young Zinger....check The Kop bouncing in this video.....and then you'll know why I'm glad I am old enough to remember Now THAT was going to the match.
Do the Echo still do a pink Footy Echo? As for the ciggies then I was alright after 14. Both me dad and me Ma smoked so by then I could tell them I did as well. me Old Man refused to pay for my ciggies so I had to get a job - but he still helped me out with cash for going to the match!
No not done a Pink for years mate not a proper post match one anyway. My Dad was a smoker so I worked to pay for my ticket then just sneaked as many of his cigs as I could through the week and smoked them all on a Saturday afternoon
The Kop was like that throughout the 60s as well. You should have been in there when we played Inter in the European Cup semi 1st leg in 65 after having won the FA Cup for the first time . When Byrne and Milne paraded the FA Cup before the match even the air was vibrating let alone the concrete. I was at the match at Wolves when we won the league - what a night. Even though they were relegated the Wolves fans were immense.
Question. Is the commentary on sky a little bit OTT? I do like Martin Tylers enthusiasm, but he does over do it slightly. There was also the Gary Nevilles eugghhhhhhh from the Champions League semi final which was slightly cringeworthy. However Gary Neville is turning into a fantastic analyst, and I surprised by that.
I was thinking exactly the same thing.....I tend to turn the TV commentary down and have the radio on these days but Aldo's starting to do my head in on the City commentary
Sounds brilliant I used to love the derby games and obviously it was always rocking against the mancs. I went to the last two games in '86 (home games) which we won both 5-0 (think it was Brum and Coventry). Think we won our last 7 games that year snatching the title from the blues with Kennys magical goal at Stamford Bridge The Man Utd 3-3 game was amazing as well. Its the only time I ever wanted to leave a game early....3-0 down after half an hour (ish) I remember looking toward the back of the stand and just thinking "there is no way on earth I can fight my way up there" thankfully a few minutes later and Clough rocketed one into the bottom corner....queue the mayhem European nights were always my fave though....something even better about a European night game and thats still the same today for me love them.
Listen, some dude was arrested for not smiling during the olympics:- http://gulfnews.com/news/world/man-arrested-for-not-smiling-at-olympics-1.1060050 I'm sure Woy wishes dearly that we'd all been arrested during his tennure at Liverpool.
