Doesn't help that only one corner of the ground at Stmarys sings and contributes to the atmosphere. Its up to people if they sing or not, but that's what it would take to dramatically improve the atmosphere. Ticket prices would help that, I'm sure.

It's pretty much impossible to get a stadium of people singing together without piping in the music for people to sing to. Because the speed of sound is noticeable over even 50 yards if a rhythm need to be kept up, the crowd will get out of phase. Even with the small amount of crowd singing together at the moment plenty of songs end up being sung by two sections a beat or two apart. Ye canna break the laws of physics, Captain.

Wasn't thinking along the lines of a whole stadium, just a few more blocks or so. With the whole out of time thing, the best way around that is to have a whole stand of Vocal supporters together, i'm sure there will be a better atmosphere tomorrow with block 43&44 open.
A British person is content to sit in a pub with a pint and a mildly interesting conversation.
An American isn't content until he is playing ****ing "beer pong".

I am glad that some people sing as it creates atmosphere, but I'm sure that you can't sing and concentrate at the same time. I reckon the silent majority are taking in more of the match than the 'choir' who are enjoying singing and humour.

I think its a bit obvious really. The price of Premier League is pretty much the reason. Take that fact and then take into account that Premier grounds are still full every week and its quite obvious that the people attending are a different demographic than most of football elsewhere in the world. They are have standing areas which is a help. I tend to fall asleep within minutes of sitting down. I even stand to watch the Saints stream
By that I mean that apart from Germany and England the rest of europe's grounds are way off capacity.
Look at Man United. Their average attendance was only 400 or so less than their max and I bet that could be put down to segregation!!! Dortmund are a thousand or so off.
Look at Barca. They are nearly 30,000 off their capacity, Real Madrid 15,000 off, Inter's average last season was 46k in an 80,000 stadium. That tends to mean that they get hardcore support that is undiluted with fairweather fans. it also probably means there are a lot less women, children and Japanese visitors hiding behind cameras. Its probably very similar to the reason that away fans are so loud in the PL. They tend to be hardcore fans and a lot less women and children. I think people who have never been to an away game for any club even low league would be very surprised just how loud it is when you are in the away crowd. It is normally every person in the away section singing all game long. Even lower league like Lincoln. In the away end it can be deafening sometimes.
You only have to go to an England home game to hear the effect loads of children at the game has on the atmosphere.

Dortmund get an average 80,000 in their stadium. Their capacity for international matches when it is all seated is only 65,000. That is a lot of standing I think a lot has actually been done to remove the hooliganism and violent culture of football in England over the past 30 years or so. I am not so sure that has happened in those other countries. Either way I don't hear many players moaning about the Premier League Crowds. All I hear is players championing the passion of the crowds and full stadiums. Lovren is always telling us about how he loves the fans and seems to love the atmosphere at Anfield.
Explain and then explain how many "Yanks" you know and where they are from. I work for a U.S. company and most in our organisation are fairly quiet and reserved.
Tbf to PompeyLapras, the whole point of generalisations is that you can't disprove it with specifics. I know what he means because things happen in America that are jawdropping to us, but that's because it is a foreign country, just like Serbia, Libya, Spain etc. They can't be expected to be like us just because they almost speak English.

We have gone over this ad nauseam, there are many reasons for leaving early, but mostly to beat the rush after the final whistle, especially if you need to get home using public transport e.t.c. or have a weak bladder, or have youngsters that you don't want crushed, this is a football stadium not a prison where you have to serve the whole of your sentence. If there is one thing I cannot stand, it is intolerance.
I only once ever tried to leave a Saints game before the final whistle, FA Cup 1976 Aston Villa home, losing, as I made my way to the exit, Hugh Fisher scored a late equaliser and I was nearly crushed when everyone turned back to see what was happening, we all know what happened after that..............
