So we had another high scoring win last night. Doubtless that will be enough to send some fans into a frenzy that we're good enough for promotion via the play offs. The same fans who said we were odds on for a top two finish at the beginning of the season.

Of course the reality is that if, by some miracle, we were to get promoted, it would be an abstract disaster. The squad of players we have are decent enough in the championship but nowhere near good enough for the premiership. And assuming that the club is still in Madejski's hand next season, if we do get promoted, its unlikely that he will invest the necessary funds to enable us to mount a serious campaign to stay up. And if, as is more likely, we don't get promoted, he'll probably look to sell our better players to 'balance the books'. Despite our current position, our performances this season have been very patchy, the thought of another championship season with anything less than the current squad and a relegation fight this time next year is a real possibility.

We need that new billionaire investor Madejski has been banging on about more than ever now.
