Im not getting involved in a debate on other posts in this thread, but just want to echo my support, and best wishes to Fabrice Muamba, and sincerley hope he pulls through. Was shocked when I heard the news.
This. Having read the rest of the thread, expressions of concern and respect need to be said, everything else should wait until he's better before being aired. Hopefully he'll be much better, very soon.
I really hope that he will survive and get well. It was tragic to see him on the ground saturday and seeing some players who were praying for him. Have anybody heard something about him today?
At the moment he is in a critical condition. This means that he will be in an induced ( forced ) coma. This will allow his body to revert to it's primal instinct and concentrate on survival. All outside influences and thought are taken away, basically leaving the body's in-built mechanisms supplying all of it's natural resources, supplying nutrients and chemicals to the vital organs. Along with the expert medical care and administration of life saving drugs this will increase his chance of survival. If he does survive there will definatly be a detrimental effect to his future well being. This will only become apparent after at least 48 - 72 hours after the initial trauma. The detriment of this can range from mild brain damage to complete paralysis. Only time will tell.
Thank you QPR999 for this informed update - it's good to get the facts here from an expert in the field of medical emergencies.
Sku, i'm no medical expert. All I know is that through professional and personal experience I have picked up a lot of stuff. Just like you, I have developed a sense of curiosity that when I hear of something, I try and check it out. All I know is basic life support, and signs and symptoms of this and what to do until the cavalry arrives. This can make a huge difference in the ongoing aftercare of a patient who has suffered major traumatism. I firmly believe that this stuff should be taugt in the schooling curriculam. What's more important? Who knows the capital of Brunei or how to do CPR? Btw, as much as I dislike him, the Vinny Jones CPR advert was a great step towards making a difference.
From James Pearce @Pearcesport BBC Sports News and Olympics Correspondent on twitter "Great news. Update on Muamba. Hospital say he's showing "small signs of improvement" and is moving his arms and legs. Hospital say Muamba's heart is beating without the help of medication. "His long term prognosis will remain unclear for some time" London Chest Hospital hadn't been due to give update until tonight. Muamba has long way to go, but this early update is really positive."
