The FA have this one very wrong, you could clearly see his intention was a quick slap and see if he can get him to react and sent off. It worked a treat but should not go unpunished.

I can try and understand what the fa thought but before that let us not talk about the fa as one individual,the process here is that 3 referees review the situation and give their opinion on if it was a a sending off offence.. independent of eachother and if the collected opinions unanimously charge Cesc,he is sanctioned... What might have happened is that Fernandinho was already chokeslamming fabregas and he retaliated in a non violent way and fernandinho proceeded to completely lose his marbles..so maybe one of the reviewers let him off. But then again after Zidane made it famous in 2006,responding to provocation gets you sent off..Cesc acted in a non violent and highly irritable and provacative way,the only reason people get away with verbal provocation is that nothing can be proved..so cesc reacting physically should have been enough to charge him and subsequently suffer a one match ban at the very least after all exemplary proffesional behaviour is expected of all regardless of who was the initiator So all in all very wrong for the chelsea number 4 to be let off but maybe the over the top reaction of his opponent and the drama the former created by no longer reacting after his objective had been achieved,he looked almost like a helpless teen being bullied or man of god under restraint and finally falling over the ad hoarding played into the fa's mind and decided it wont look good to the lay or casual footie fan so for the sake of image they let him off,im sure if cesc took up the fight he would have been sent off but he snakily provoked him and watched the circus unfold. It would have been funny though to see cesc banned retrospectively just when matic was injured,proper karma. COYG!
