Only if Barcelona don't sign a marquee name to play that #10 role this season. The real issue is that if Fabregas IS the replacement for Xavi in that position, then Vilanova is going to have to explain why he stuck with Xavi this year. Xavi has 5 goals and 5 assists in the league this year, in a position where he doesn't do any defending. That is really bad. If he had a readymade replacement, and I was his boss, I would be asking him why the hell he stuck with Xavi. Vilanova is likely to say that Fabregas isn't good enough, and he needs someone better, at which point Fabregas is instantly out of the picture.
Today I spoke to a friend of mine who is from Barcelona (he is a football freak too) and he says the media claims Fabregas will leave this season.... lets hope so
Except weirdly, they see him more of a second striker. Barca seem to think he's too offensive to play the Xavi position. I cant remember the last time Fabregas was played in CM for Barca. They are mis-using him.
But he played AM for Arsenal in his last two seasons here, and played striker for Spain in the Euros. He hasn't been a CM for a long time.
but he was arguably at his best when he played there, because he can actually tackle. he learned the all-round game from vieira for ****'s sake! u don't get a much more rounded midfielder than that, and cesc can do that job.
At Barca they play him as a wing forward or a false number 9, he has never played either role for Arsenal.
No - he's still a CM. Wether he played as our most attacking midfielder or not does'nt make a difference. We never played him as basically a second striker like Barca do.
Despite getting all those goals as an AM for us, I think Cesc's best season was the 2007-08 one, and he played in CM alongside Flamini. He was epic in that season.
I would like to see a midfield of Walcott, Fabregas, and Ramsey, playing together for 5+ years. We need that continuity more than anything.
